π We’re Not Better. We’re Just Growing.
π We’re Not Better. We’re Just Growing.
There was a time in my life when light filled the room.
Not metaphorical light.
Real presence.
Real love.
Real stillness.
And in that moment, nothing else mattered.
Not position.
Not rank.
Not who was right.
Not who was wrong.
Just love.
When you’ve tasted that kind of light, something changes in you.
But here’s the danger:
You can mistake awakening for superiority.
And that’s where humility quietly slips away.
πΏ Different Stages Are Not Different Values
We are all at different stages.
Some are deeply devoted to the institution.
Some are questioning.
Some have stepped away.
Some are rebuilding.
Stages are not rankings.
They are timing.
A first grader is not inferior to a senior in high school.
They are simply in a different chapter.
And even that senior once sat in first grade.
Growth is not a ladder of worth.
It’s a journey of unfolding.
π₯ When Irritation Creeps In
I used to go to church and feel frustrated.
Why don’t they see this?
Why are we focused on that?
Why do we elevate structure?
Why not just Christ?
And then something shifted.
I started seeing the people instead of the system.
A stake president who kneels at night and sincerely prays for guidance.
A bishop trying to help families stay together.
Parents doing their best to raise children in faith.
These are not villains.
These are sincere souls.
And when you see the soul, irritation softens.
π The Sacrament Tray Moment
The deacons pass the sacrament.
It goes to the presiding authority first.
Something inside says,
“If Jesus were here, He would go last.”
Maybe.
But maybe Jesus would quietly accept the order of the room and focus on the hearts inside it.
The power of the sacrament isn’t in who receives it first.
It’s in who receives it humbly.
The more I look for hierarchy, the more I see it.
The more I look for Christ, the more I see Him.
I get to choose what I amplify.
π️ Healing, Not Winning
The most meaningful work I’ve ever done wasn’t exposing error.
It was healing hearts.
People who left feeling broken.
People who felt judged.
People who thought they disappointed God.
Bringing them back to the Savior — gently — has done more good than any argument ever could.
That’s when I realized:
My calling isn’t to correct everyone.
It’s to increase love in whatever room I’m in.
π True Humility
Humility isn’t thinking less of yourself.
It’s thinking less about comparison.
It’s remembering:
Five years ago, I didn’t see what I see now.
Five years from now, I’ll probably see more.
If God is patient with me,
He is patient with them.
This is one eternal round.
We are all being worked on.
πΏ When I Feel Superior
If I ever think,
“They need to wake up,”
I stop.
Because that thought places me above them.
And that’s not the spirit I felt in that light long ago.
That light didn’t make me better.
It made me small.
Grateful.
Aware that love is the only thing that matters.
If my awakening makes me softer,
it’s real.
If it makes me superior,
I’ve drifted.
π₯ The New Way to Walk Into Church
Now I walk in with a different mission.
Not to audit.
Not to correct.
Not to analyze.
But to ask quietly:
“Where is Jesus in this room?”
He’s in the sacrament prayer.
He’s in the trembling new bishop.
He’s in the faithful grandmother.
He’s in the child singing off-key.
And if I look for Him,
I find Him.
Every time.
π The Peace That Comes
When you stop trying to control other people’s timelines,
peace enters.
When you release the need for everyone to be “further,”
peace enters.
When you see sincere souls instead of flawed systems,
peace enters.
And peace is proof.
π Final Thought
We are not here to judge stages.
We are here to grow through them.
We are not better.
We are not behind.
We are becoming.
And the closer we stay to the light that once surrounded us —
the light where nothing else mattered —
the safer we are.
Love more.
Judge less.
Stay small.
Look for Jesus.
That’s enough.
