Fighting Against God
⚖️ As They Suppose
“Many are called, but few are chosen…”
(D&C 121)
We’ve read it.
We’ve quoted it.
But have we ever really understood it?
This isn’t just a gentle reminder to be humble.
It’s a divine warning—to men with priesthood, to leaders, to any soul who thinks they’re in charge… “as they suppose.”
🏛️ The Danger of False Authority
“It is the nature and disposition of almost all men, as soon as they get a little authority, as they suppose, they will immediately begin to exercise unrighteous dominion.”
It’s not real authority.
It’s a pretense.
They’re not chosen.
They’re just in position.
And they use that position to dominate, manipulate, and control others—in the name of God.
But the heavens aren’t fooled.
💔 Why the Priesthood Is Lost
“When we undertake to cover our sins, or to gratify our pride… or exercise control… in any degree of unrighteousness… the Spirit is grieved… and Amen to the priesthood…”
That’s it.
No courtroom trial.
No long letter from Church HQ.
Just—Amen.
Cut off.
Disconnected from the Powers of Heaven.
And worst of all?
“…ere he is aware, he is left unto himself…”
He doesn’t even know it’s gone.
🛑 Fighting Against God
“To persecute the saints… and to fight against God.”
This is not a warning to the critics of the Church.
This is a warning to the Church itself.
“Be careful not to persecute those Saints who are at odds with you…”
Because if you do…
you may find yourself fighting against the Lord.
That flips the narrative.
We’ve taught this verse as a shield against criticism.
But it’s actually a sword of caution—to the institution.
💡 What Real Power Looks Like
“No power or influence can or ought to be maintained… only by persuasion, by long-suffering, by gentleness…”
Not by command.
Not by priesthood titles.
Not by sustaining votes.
Real power flows only when love is unfeigned,
when meekness is lived,
when pure knowledge expands the soul.
✨ The Doctrine Distills Like Dew
“Then shall thy confidence wax strong in the presence of God…”
That line hits deep.
It’s not about confidence in your calling.
Or your talks.
Or your authority.
It’s about confidence in His presence.
Because your thoughts are clean.
Because your heart is soft.
Because you’ve learned how heaven works.
And when you do,
“The doctrine of the priesthood shall distill upon thy soul as the dews from heaven.”
Quiet.
Pure.
Direct from above.
🔥 Sharp Words, Soft Heart
“Reproving with sharpness when moved upon by the Holy Ghost, then showing forth an increase of love…”
This isn’t about being nice all the time.
Sometimes the Spirit speaks with fire.
Sometimes a loving rebuke is the most Christlike thing you can do.
But it only works if it’s followed by love.
Not fake love.
Not PR love.
But the kind that says:
“I’m still with you. You’re still mine.”
🕊️ Your Thoughts Are the Key
“Let virtue garnish thy thoughts unceasingly…”
The thoughts you guard in secret…
will shape the power you carry in public.
The Lord doesn’t just tie priesthood to behavior.
He ties it to the private landscape of your mind.
“You should let your thoughts be such that you will be confident in His presence.”
That’s the bar.
That’s the measure.
👑 Everlasting Dominion… Without Compulsion
“Thy dominion shall be an everlasting dominion, and without compulsory means it shall flow unto thee forever and ever.”
That’s the kind of power heaven trusts.
Not forced.
Not faked.
Just flowing.
Because the man is pure.
Because the vessel is clean.
Because God Himself can walk with him and not be grieved.
🔔 Final Witness
If you’ve ever seen a man try to control others “as he supposes,”
you’ve seen this play out.
It doesn’t matter if the crowd calls him “President” or “Bishop” or “Elder.”
If he uses fear...
If he manipulates with guilt...
If he persecutes the humble...
The Spirit is already gone.
But if you’ve seen someone lead with persuasion, long-suffering, gentleness, meekness, and pure knowledge…
Then you’ve tasted a priesthood that’s still alive.
Still flowing.
Still chosen.
💔 And here’s the hard truth…
We’ve spent so much time protecting the Church—
its image, its programs, its titles, its polished certainty—
That we’ve forgotten to protect the Savior.
The One who knelt with sinners.
The One who flipped temple tables.
The One who said, “Follow me,” not “follow them.”
It’s time to stop doing the Church’s will.
And start doing His will.
Not the will of the corporation.
Not the handbook.
But the will of the Living Christ—who still speaks, still calls, still walks with the lowly.
Because in the end, He won’t ask us,
“Did you defend the system?”
He’ll ask,
