Don’t Settle for Secondhand Revelation
✨ Don’t Settle for Secondhand Revelation
The Savior’s Invitation Is Personal – For You, For Me, For All of Us
🕊️ Where This Came From
My wife and I recently started studying from a popular LDS scripture study guide.
It’s thoughtful. It’s sincere. I’m sure the people behind it love the Lord.
But as we read, my heart ached.
Why? Because it taught that most people don’t really receive their own revelation—
that some are given the gift to “know,”
while the rest simply “believe on the words of those who do.”
It may sound humble,
but it quietly lowers the Savior’s invitation to His children.
Spiritually, it was hard to take. Because it goes against everything the scriptures—and the Spirit—have been teaching me.
📖 What They Said vs. What the Scriptures Say
The guide explained that D&C 46:13–14 says:
✔️ Some are given to “know” that Jesus is the Christ.
✔️ Others are blessed to “believe on their words.”
That’s true… as far as it goes.
But the guide implied this is how it stays—
that most of us will never get beyond believing secondhand.
The scriptures tell a different story:
🕊️ The Savior’s Words
“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.”
(John 10:27)
📜 Nephi’s Promise
“If ye will enter in by the way, and receive the Holy Ghost,
it will show unto you all things what ye should do.”
(2 Nephi 32:5)
🗝️ Joseph Smith’s Declaration
“It is the privilege of the children of God to come to God and get revelation.”
🌿 Nemenhah Records
“The Peacemaker speaks to all who will listen.
Seek Him with a pure heart and He will whisper His will to you,
as to the prophets of old.”
(Tsihohnayah Ahkehkthihm, Ch. 13)
Believing on another’s words is a gift—
but it’s a starting gift, not the finish line.
Ishmael followed Nephi into the wilderness without his own vision at first…
but eventually he too had to know for himself.
The Doctrine of Christ is clear:
The Lord’s goal for every one of us is to hear Him personally.
⛰️ A Pattern Through History
This isn’t a new problem. It’s as old as scripture itself.
Moses wanted to bring Israel into the presence of the Lord Himself,
but they turned away, afraid of His voice (Exodus 20:19).Jesus wanted to give the people the fullness of His gospel,
but they rejected Him—and many killed Him for it.Joseph Smith tried to restore that same fullness in our day,
but the Saints rejected the higher law, and the Lord took it away for a time (D&C 84:23–25, 3 Nephi 26:10).
And here we are now—
the same invitation still standing,
the same pattern repeating for those who will or won’t receive it.
🔥 The Secret—The Full Doctrine of Christ
The full doctrine of Christ isn’t complicated. It’s not locked behind prophets, priests, or paid teachers.
It’s this:
Listen to the Savior’s voice, and do what He says.
That’s it. That’s the whole secret.
When you repent, are baptized, and truly receive the Holy Ghost,
you are promised His voice.
Not secondhand.
Not someday.
Now.
❤️ A Personal Plea
I’m not here to criticize anyone.
Most LDS teachers are good, sincere people doing their best to help.
But sincerity doesn’t change truth:
The Savior never meant for us to settle for secondhand revelation.
You are invited—personally.
The same Spirit that whispered to Nephi,
that comforted Enos,
that guided Joseph Smith,
will teach you if you will come to Christ.
📜 A Promise for Husbands and Wives
The Nemenhah Records give us this beautiful promise:
“When a man and a woman seek together in meekness,
the Peacemaker will draw near unto them,
and His voice will be heard in their house.
For they are no more twain, but one,
and He shall whisper to them as to a single heart.”
(Book of Tsihmlayi, Ch. 2)
That’s what I want for my wife and me.
That’s what the Savior wants for all of us.
🙏 A Prayer
"Lord Jesus, we don’t want to live on borrowed light.
Teach us. Speak to us. Let us hear You for ourselves.
And for those who seek together, bless them to hear Your voice as one—
husbands and wives, friends, brothers and sisters.
Whisper to us, Lord. We are listening.
In Your holy name, Amen."
