Every Thought Is Not From God ------- (Learning to Truly Hear His Voice)
π₯ Every Thought Is Not From God
(Learning to Truly Hear His Voice)
The Subtle Mistake We All Make
We’ve all done it.
A thought pops into our head, a warm feeling washes over us, and we think,
“The Spirit just told me this.”
Sometimes that’s true.
Sometimes it’s not.
The Lord has always warned us to test the spirits—not just the big, loud ones out in the world, but even the quiet ones in our own hearts.
The Nemenhah say it.
Joseph Smith taught it.
The Savior Himself made it plain:
“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.”
(John 10:27)
Not every voice is His voice.
π What the Scriptures Say
✅ Book of Mormon – A Pure Test
Moroni gave us a simple, powerful key:
“Every thing which inviteth and enticeth to do good, and to love God, and to serve Him, is inspired of God.”
(Moroni 7:13)
Good = Love = Service.
If it leads to pride, fear, or control—it’s not from Him.
✅ Doctrine and Covenants – Pure Light (before Brigham muddied things)
Joseph Smith recorded this:
“That which is of God is light; and he that receiveth light, and continueth in God, receiveth more light; and that light groweth brighter and brighter until the perfect day.”
(D&C 50:24)
True revelation builds peaceful light—not confusion, anxiety, or urgency to act without confirmation.
✅ The Nemenhah Records – Test Every Thought
The Nemenhah teach us not to trust every feeling just because it’s strong:
“He ceased to subject all things unto the confirmation of the Haymehnay.”
(Mohrhohnahyah 15:9)
That was Tuhcahntohr’s first great mistake—he assumed every thought in his heart was the Peacemaker’s voice.
The Nemenhah way is simple:
✨ Subject every thought to the Haymehnay.
✨ Confirm before acting.
✨ If it contradicts love, humility, or service—test it again.
✅ The Bible – The Fruit Test
Jesus gave us the same principle:
“Ye shall know them by their fruits.”
(Matthew 7:16)
Not just “them,” but also the thoughts in our own hearts. What fruit will this thought produce? Love, service, and humility—or pride and contention?
π₯ How to Really Hear Him
The Spirit speaks the same way in every record:
Pure. Gentle. Bright. Love-filled.
Here’s the simple path the Lord gave us through all the records:
Ask.
Don’t assume. Ask Him. Even in small things.Wait.
The true Spirit isn’t frantic or rushed. Pure light builds slowly, peacefully, quietly.Test by Fruit.
Does it lead to love, humility, and service? Then walk in it.Keep Asking.
The Nemenhah warn us never to stop confirming. Tuhcahntohr fell because he thought he had “arrived.”
πΏ A Gentle Reminder
The Savior keeps His counsel simple:
“Hear Him.”
Not “Hear every thought.”
Not “Hear the man in authority.”
Just Him.
Your Turn, My Friend
Maybe the first step to hearing Him better isn’t trying harder—
maybe it’s slowing down.
Ask.
Wait.
Test.
And then walk when His peace fills your heart with quiet light.
