From the Doctor to the Ranch

🐾 From the Doctor to the Ranch

When All Seems Lost, He Shows Up

Yesterday I wrote about sitting near the Bountiful Temple, remembering a heartbreak that changed my life—and how the Lord showed up there.

Well, today I want to share what happened after that.

From the temple to the doctor’s office… and then back down to the ranch.

πŸ₯ The News I Didn’t Want

I went to one of the well-known medical centers in Salt Lake to see a specialist for my spine—my stenosis. I had hope. People told me there were surgeries that could fix it. Maybe not perfect, but good enough to get me back on my feet, back to serving, back to walking pain-free.

I had been trying to get this done closer to home, but kept running into problems.

Anesthesiologist delays. Scheduling blocks. Complications with my case.

But I thought—Salt Lake’s the place. I’ll find help there.

Well, I got my tests. Got looked over.

And for a few moments, I really did feel hope.

Then the head doctor came in.

His words weren’t cruel—but they crushed something in me.

He didn’t see much of a path forward.

Didn’t offer much healing.

πŸš™ The Long Drive Down

So I got in my car… and headed back to the ranch.

And I’ll tell you what—when you’ve just been told there’s not much hope for your body, and you’ve got hours of highway in front of you, your mind starts moving.

But something had changed in me.

Since walking more closely with the Savior…

Since really turning myself over to Him…

I felt a peace I wouldn’t have known before.

I thought:

“I can handle this—if He walks with me.”

I started thinking about the blessing I’d received from my dear cousin and his family just a few days ago—where the Spirit told us all I was healed spiritually.

And I thought to myself:

“Well, that’s the most important healing anyway.”

πŸ’ Thinking of Faith, and the Power of God

But still, part of me longed for the physical healing too.

I thought about the days when Jesus walked the earth—when people touched His robe and were healed.

When Peter and John said, “Silver and gold have I none, but such as I have give I thee.”

Where is that sealing power now?

Where is the faith that moves mountains?

Do I have it? Could I have it?

Then I thought of the promises—what the scriptures say about the days to come.

In 2 Nephi 3, the Lord speaks of a great prophet who will rise in the last days.

Some say it’s Joseph Smith, but others—like me—believe it’s a mighty Lamanite, a remnant of the house of Israel, foretold to return with power.

And in the Nemenhah Records, the Lord makes it plain:

The remnant will rise again,

and they will be given the sealing power.

The same power that Jesus used to heal with a word.

The same power Joseph Smith tasted—when even a handkerchief carried healing to the faithful.

We see miracles today—yes.

But there is a time soon to come when those who walk with the Lord in purity will do as He did:

Lay hands on the broken… and they shall be made whole.

I yearn for that day. I believe in that day.

And maybe… I’m already walking toward it.

πŸ“ž The Call That Brought Tears

I called that same dear family again—my cousin’s family—the ones who blessed me.

We talked about my nephew’s sweet wife, who passed away from ALS.

We believed she would be healed. But the Lord healed her spiritually, and we knew it, because she walked so closely with Him before she left this world.

As we were finishing our conversation, they said:

“We’ll say a prayer for you right now.”

And I believe they did. Because within five minutes, I got a call from my hometown doctor.

He said:

“I’ve found some other doctors who may be able to help. Let’s try another path.”

Out of the blue.

Right after that prayer.

I’m sure there were others praying too.

A miracle.

🌿 A Test? A Lesson?

I started to wonder…

Was this all a test?

Would I still walk with the Lord even if my body didn’t heal?

Would I accept the road ahead—even if it meant more pain and less motion?

And the answer in my heart was yes.

Because He’s already healed the part of me that matters most.

But still… He gave me hope.

πŸ‘£ My Dad’s Simple Gospel

My dad didn’t have a lot of fancy church callings.

But he told me one thing that has stayed with me my whole life:

“You take care of the Lord—and He’ll take care of you.”

I don’t know if anything’s ever proven that more clearly than yesterday.

πŸ“– Scriptures That Lit My Way

From the Book of Mormon:

“If men come unto me I will show unto them their weakness.”

— Ether 12:27

“Come unto me, all ye ends of the earth… and I will give unto you rest.”

— 2 Nephi 26:33

“I am the light and the life of the world. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end.”

— 3 Nephi 9:18

“And the Lord said: I will raise up unto the fruit of thy loins… a great seer… and his name shall be called after me.”

— 2 Nephi 3:7, 15

From the Nemenhah Records:

“The Peacemaker shall come and walk with the broken… and He shall make them whole.”

— Tsihohnayah 14:6

“I called out from the place of my pain, and lo, He answered me.”

— Ahgoahtee 2:3

“Even in sickness, He is strength; even in weakness, He is the way.”

— Mahnti 8:11

“The Remnant shall return, and with them the gifts and powers of old… and they shall lay hands upon the sick and they shall recover.”

— Tsihohnayah 15:2 (paraphrased)

πŸ”₯ Final Thought

I don’t know what tomorrow holds.

Maybe I’ll walk strong again. Maybe I won’t.

But either way—I will walk with Him.

And that’s enough for me.

Comments

  1. I have been pondering on the sealing power and the power to heal too. When will it come? Trusting in the Lord. Best line ever: “I can handle this—if He walks with me.” Your Dad gave you amazing advice! “You take care of the Lord—and He’ll take care of you.” Been praying for you this morning.
