Who Will Finish the Work? ----- An answer to my first question in this blogging experience!

๐Ÿงฑ Who Will Finish the Work?

๐ŸŒฟ “Ye are laying the foundation of a great work. And out of small things proceedeth that which is great.”
—Doctrine & Covenants 64:33

✨ A Comment That Got Me Thinking

So I got a comment on my last post---the first question!

I don’t know if it was from a brother or a sister—
but they wrote something really thoughtful:

“Forgive me, but out of habit I’m inclined to find the source of every attributed quote of Joseph; would you oblige to give me reference for ‘I am laying the foundation, and another will come to bring it to completion’?”

Now… I’ll admit something here:

I’m still learning how to use this blogging stuff.
I’m not quite sure how to reply to their comment the official way—
so I just figured…
I’d write a whole new post instead.

๐Ÿ˜‚

That’s one way to answer a question, right?

๐Ÿ“š Did Joseph Say That?

The words I used in that earlier post were a paraphrase—not a direct quote.
But here’s what Joseph did say:

• “I calculate to be one of the instruments of setting up the kingdom of Daniel… and I intend to lay a foundation that will revolutionize the world.”
—History of the Church 6:365

• “Let us finish the temple… the Kingdom will be established, and I do not care what shall become of me.”
—Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, ch. 44

• “Ye are laying the foundation of a great work…”
—Doctrine and Covenants 64:33

So while I didn’t get the words exactly right,
I still believe the spirit of them is true:

Joseph Smith laid the foundation.
Someone else will finish it.

๐Ÿ” Will That Someone Be Joseph Smith… Again?

Now this opens up a deeper question.

Many faithful Saints believe that Joseph Smith will return
maybe resurrected,
maybe in another role—
to complete the work he began.

And that belief isn’t wild:

• His patriarchal blessing (from his father) speaks of future glory
• 2 Nephi 3 mentions a Joseph, son of Joseph, as a choice seer
• We've been taught he holds the keys of this dispensation—so, maybe?

I understand where they’re coming from.
I really do.

๐ŸŒฑ But What If… It’s Someone Else?

When I read 2 Nephi 3, I see something else too:

• Joseph of Egypt speaks of a seer from his loins
• One who will bring the Lord’s covenants to his people
• And that people? The remnant of Joseph—the Lamanites, the Nemenhah, the House of Israel

And the Nemenhah Records echo this as well:

“Those who received the Restoration turned from the fullness…
Yet the Lord used them for a time,
for they were industrious and organized.
But another shall yet come…”

—Tsihohnayah Chapter 14

Even the Savior Himself
was born through Joseph’s line
(through Ephraim on Mary’s side, according to many scholars).

So maybe the seer to finish this work
isn’t Joseph Smith returning.
Maybe it’s another Joseph.
A remnant prophet.
A humble one.
One we haven’t expected.

๐Ÿ•Š️ What I’ve Been Feeling Lately

I’ll be honest with you.

I’ve heard the arguments both ways.
I’ve read the blessings, the prophecies, the history.
And I’ve prayed.

I still don’t know for sure.
But I do feel this:
I don’t think Joseph Smith will return to finish it
at least not in the way some believe.

That doesn’t mean he won’t have a role.
But something in me says
the Lord has someone else in mind.

๐Ÿ™ When in Doubt… Ask the Lord

And here’s what I’ve learned over the years:

When you’ve got a question,
you can study and search all you want…
but the best source is still the Lord.

He actually answers.
Not always with the words we expect—
but with meanings that go deep into the heart.

And here’s the interesting part:

• I know some of the best people to ever walk the earth
• Good hearts, real light
• And they often see things differently

Why?
Because the Lord speaks to each of us
according to our understanding,
our experience,
our journey.

So when I say I don’t know…
I really mean: I’m still asking.
And the Lord is still teaching.

That’s why I said
someone will finish what Joseph began.

๐ŸŒŒ The More I Know… the More I Don’t

And here’s something else I’ve come to feel:

The more the Lord shows me,
the more I realize how much I don’t know.

It’s a strange and beautiful blessing.

As I learn more,
I also become more open
to things I once dismissed.

And here’s a thought—just a thought:

Is it possible
that to truly become like Jesus,
we might need more than one lifetime?

I know the present LDS Church doesn’t teach that.
I’m not preaching doctrine here.
I’m just being honest.

Because I’ve heard others teach it—
and it’s made me wonder.

Could Joseph Smith return in another life?
Could he be the remnant Joseph prophesied in 2 Nephi 3?

And the Lord does work in mysterious ways.

I’m not saying I know.
I’m just keeping the door open.

Because the more I know…
the more I know that I don’t know.

And I think that’s a really good place to be.

It keeps me humble.
It keeps me listening.
And it keeps me close to Him.
