π₯ Borrowed Light – The Lesson from Moses and Israel
π₯ Borrowed Light – The Lesson from Moses and Israel
(Day 3 of “Finding Joy and Peace in a World of Contention” Series)
We’ve seen the warning from the Lord about condemnation.
We’ve seen the way back in Lehi’s dream — clinging to the real rod, the living voice of Jesus Christ.
But there’s a danger that still traps many good Saints: living on borrowed light.
π Israel’s Missed Opportunity
In Exodus, God offered Israel something extraordinary.
Through Moses, He gave them the chance to come into His presence themselves — to receive the higher law directly from Him.
But the people said:
“Speak thou with us, and we will hear: but let not God speak with us, lest we die.” (Exodus 20:19)
They turned down the invitation.
They chose to have Moses be their middleman.
⚠️ The Result
God gave them the Ten Commandments instead — a lower law.
And they wandered in the wilderness for forty years.
They had manna in the morning and miracles in their history, but they didn’t have the daily presence of God.
πͺΆ The Nemenhah Witness
The Nemenhah Records echo this same warning:
“If the people will not come unto Me, I must needs send stewards. But they shall not know My face until they seek Me in their tents and in their fields and in their homes.” (Book of Hahgohtl)
Borrowed light — depending on someone else’s relationship with God — may give you the appearance of spirituality, but it will never bring you into His presence.
π What Borrowed Light Looks Like Today
Relying on a Church leader’s testimony instead of getting your own.
Feeling “safe” because you follow policies, but never asking God if you’re hearing Him.
Believing peace can only be found in a building or ordinance, instead of in His presence.
✨ The Only Light That Lasts
Jesus Christ is the light of the world.
He doesn’t shine on you through a middleman — He calls you to walk in His light directly.
When you know His voice, no spiritual wilderness can shake you.
πΊ The Invitation
Today’s step toward joy in a world of contention is this: Ask yourself, “Am I living on borrowed light, or am I walking in the light of Christ?”
Tomorrow, in Day 4, we’ll look at the “Modern Test” prophesied by President Nelson and Heber C. Kimball — a sifting that will make this question unavoidable.
