๐ŸŒŠ A Historic Journey Toward the Voice of Christ

๐ŸŒŠ Joy and Peace in a World of Contention

(A Chiastic Journey Toward the Voice of Christ)

๐ŸŒ THE WORLD IS ON FIRE

We were asked to speak on joy and peace in a world of contention.

But let’s be honest — the world feels like it’s burning down.
Politically. Environmentally.
But most of all... spiritually.

And if we’re not careful, that same spirit of contention seeps into our homes, our wards, even our hearts.

There’s only one cure:
Living water.
And that only comes from the Savior Himself.

So how do we drink that living water?

๐Ÿ‘‚ We learn to hear His voice.

๐Ÿ“– THE PATTERN FROM THE BEGINNING

๐Ÿ‘ซ Adam and Eve taught their children to hear the Lord.
But over generations, the people turned away —
until one man listened...

๐Ÿ™️ Enoch.
He walked with God.
He taught his people to do the same.
And because they obeyed, they were taken up.
Zion ascended.

๐Ÿชจ THE PEOPLE FEARED HIS VOICE

๐Ÿ”ฅ Then came Moses.
He climbed the mountain and received a higher law.
But the people were afraid.

“Moses, you speak to God for us.”

So they were given the Ten Commandments — the lower law —
and they wandered for forty years.

๐ŸŽฏ Message?
When we choose someone else to hear God for us,
we wander.
But when we hear Him ourselves — we move toward Zion.

✝️ THE SAVIOR CAME… AND WAS REJECTED

Jesus walked among us.
He taught, healed, forgave.

But after His resurrection, His apostles were killed.
The gospel didn’t hold.
The people weren’t ready.

๐Ÿ“˜ THE RESTORATION CAME

Through Joseph Smith, the Book of Mormon came forth.
But the Lord declared the Church was under condemnation
— for not living what the book teaches.

“Not only to say, but to do.” (D&C 84:57)

President Benson reminded us:
⚠️ The condemnation still stands.

๐Ÿ” THE PATTERN REPEATS

When we listen — truly listen —
and act — truly act —
we find joy, peace, and power.

๐Ÿ“ข MODERN PROPHETS WARN

President Russell M. Nelson:

“In the coming days, it will not be possible to survive spiritually without the guiding, directing, comforting, and constant influence of the Holy Ghost.”
(April 2018)

“We have not yet fully met the Lord’s expectation that we learn how to hear Him.”
(Feb 2020)

And over 150 years ago, Heber C. Kimball prophesied:

“There will be a great sifting time, and many will fall; for I say unto you there is a TEST, a Test, a TEST coming — and who will be able to stand?”

The test won’t be about policy.
It will be about voice.

๐Ÿ“œ SCRIPTURAL WARNINGS

“Wo be unto him that is at ease in Zion!”
(2 Nephi 28:24)
“Why have ye polluted the holy church of God?... and suffer the hungry and needy to pass by you, and notice them not?”
(Mormon 8:36–39)

These aren’t warnings to “the world.”
๐Ÿ›‘ They’re to us.

๐Ÿ›ค️ THE WAY BACK: THE DOCTRINE OF CHRIST

Nephi lays it out:

But not just in name only.
๐Ÿ“ฃ Receiving the Holy Ghost means hearing Him —
recognizing and obeying His whisperings.

๐ŸŒฒ LEHI’S DREAM: NOT ALL LIGHT IS TRUE LIGHT

Lehi’s dream begins with a man in a white robe
who leads him into darkness.

Not every spiritual-looking guide is from God.

The only way to the Tree of Life
was to cling to the iron rod —
which is not just scripture,
but the living voice of Jesus Christ to you.

๐Ÿงผ THE TEST BEGINS WITH SMALL THINGS

To hear Him, begin with what’s right in front of you:

  • Help your spouse with the dishes.

  • Pick up the socks without being asked.

  • Call the person you’ve been thinking about.

Last week, a dear brother shared this:

“Start your prayer in the morning — and don’t say amen till the end of the day.”

Live in a state of open prayer.
Let your heart ask:
“Lord, what can I do for You today?”

๐Ÿ”ฅ DON’T LIVE ON BORROWED LIGHT

Do not depend on another person’s revelation.
Do not substitute authority for intimacy.
The Savior is speaking.

๐Ÿ‘ฃ He’s asking you to walk with Him.

๐ŸŽฏ THE INVITATION

Love the Church.
But love the Savior more.

Don’t just read the Book of Mormon.
๐Ÿ“– Live it.

Don’t just follow the robe.
๐Ÿ‘‚ Follow the Voice.

๐Ÿ’ฌ In the End…

We won’t just survive the contention of the world —
We will walk through it with joy and peace.
Because we will walk with Him.

The day I found out the Savior wants to walk with you not only in the Temple is the day that changed everything!

In the name of Jesus Christ, amen. ๐Ÿ™
