๐ŸŒธ The Lord’s Warning: Why the Church Is Still Under Condemnation

๐ŸŒธ The Lord’s Warning: Why the Church Is Still Under Condemnation

(Day 1 of “Finding Joy and Peace in a World of Contention” Series)

We can’t find true joy in a world full of contention unless we first face one hard truth: The Lord says His Church is under condemnation.

And here’s the harder part — that condemnation hasn’t gone away.

๐Ÿ“œ The Lord’s Declaration

In Doctrine and Covenants 84:54–57, the Lord Himself said:

“The whole church is under condemnation… and shall remain under this condemnation until they repent and remember the new covenant, even the Book of Mormon… not only to say, but to do.”

This isn’t my opinion. It’s not a quote from a critic. This is Jesus Christ, speaking to the early Saints, warning that something was deeply wrong.

And then, in 1986, President Ezra Taft Benson stood at the pulpit and said the exact same thing:

“We must not only say, but do. We must act in the spirit of the Book of Mormon.”

And no prophet since has ever said the condemnation has been lifted.

๐Ÿ•ฏ️ How We Know It’s Still Here

We don’t have to guess.
The proof is simple: We are not living in Zion.

If Zion were here, the fruits would be unmistakable:

  • No poor among us.

  • No divisions in our hearts.

  • One heart, one mind, dwelling in righteousness.

  • A people who walk daily in the presence of the Savior.

Instead, we see spiritual apathy, growing dependence on programs instead of revelation, and a generation that can quote leaders but struggles to recognize the Lord’s voice.

๐Ÿ” What Condemnation Does

Condemnation isn’t just God frowning at us.
It has a direct spiritual effect:

  • It darkens the mind. The things of God feel distant or confusing.

  • It robs joy. Even blessings feel flat because they aren’t connected to His presence.

  • It makes us vulnerable to contention. We get offended easier, dig in our heels quicker, and spend more time defending our opinions than hearing His voice.

✨ The Way Out

The Lord didn’t just give the diagnosis — He gave the cure:

  • Repent.

  • Remember the Book of Mormon.

  • Don’t just say it — do what it says.

This isn’t about reading a few chapters a day to check a box.
It’s about living the Book of Mormon.

When it says to come unto Christ, we actually come.
When it says to hear His voice, we learn how.
When it says to lay down our weapons of rebellion, we stop fighting Him.

๐ŸŒบ The Invitation

Today’s step toward joy in a world of contention is this: Ask the Lord if the condemnation He spoke of still applies to you.

Be willing to hear His answer.
If He says yes, then thank Him — because He only reveals a wound so He can heal it.

Tomorrow, in Day 2, we’ll talk about the vision that maps the way out of condemnation — Lehi’s Dream — and what it really means to hold to the rod.
