✝️ Jesus Is Our Sabbath Rest

✝️ Jesus Is Our Sabbath Rest

Well, I’ve been chewin’ on some conversations with family lately, and I reckon the Spirit’s been nudging me to write this down. One of ’em said she liked what Charlie Kirk said about the Sabbath—that it’s supposed to be about worship, family, and rest, not cramming it full of meetings and running all over the county. And boy, that rings true.

Another voice chimed in and reminded us, “We can’t keep the Law perfect—not even the Sabbath.” And that’s right. The Law is like a mirror—it shows us our need for Christ, not our righteousness.

So here we sit, with two sides of the same coin.

📖 The Bible Says…

Jesus told us straight: “The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath. Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the Sabbath” (Mark 2:27–28).

Paul adds: “By grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God, not of works” (Ephesians 2:8–9).

So the Sabbath ain’t about perfect rule-keeping. It’s about remembering Who gives us rest.

🪶 The Book of Mormon Adds…

Nephi said it plain as day: “It is by grace that we are saved, after all we can do” (2 Nephi 25:23).

That doesn’t mean grace is the gap-filler after we’ve sweated ourselves silly. It means grace is the only reason we can do anything at all. Works are just the fruit that follows.

Alma echoed it: “Come unto Christ, and be perfected in him, and deny yourselves of all ungodliness… then is his grace sufficient for you” (Moroni 10:32).

🌄 The Nemenhah Records Remind Us…

The Peacemaker taught: “The Law was given as a schoolmaster, to bring us unto the Christ. But when the Christ is come, the Law is fulfilled, and we walk in Him, not in shadows” (Nemenhah, Tsihohnayah Ahkehkthihm 14). ✔ VERIFIED

That’s the same drumbeat: Jesus is the Sabbath. The Law points to Him, but He’s the One who gives life.

🪑 Porch-Swing Takeaway

So I reckon both sides are right in their own way.

  • One is saying: don’t clutter the Sabbath with busywork—keep it about God and family.

  • The other is saying: don’t fool yourself into thinkin’ your Sabbath-keeping makes you righteous—only Jesus does that.

Put those together, and the picture is clear: rest in Him, keep it simple, and let grace do the heavy lifting.

🙏 Final Thought

The Sabbath is a gift. It’s not a burden, it’s not a checklist. It’s a weekly reminder that Christ already carried the load. When I remember that, my heart gets lighter, and even the “work” of worship becomes joy.

We ought to open the day asking: “What can we do for You today, dear Lord?” And then keep that prayer open the whole day. Listen to the Spirit. Listen to the Voice. And try to do some good in this world.

Jesus is the Sabbath. And that’s enough.
