π Do We Really Need the Church?
(Or Have We Already Outgrown the Training Wheels?)
π️ The Question That Won’t Go Away
Why do we need the Church — the LDS Church, specifically — if the power is within, if the Holy Ghost speaks directly, if Christ Himself is our Head?
It’s a fair question.
And it’s the same one the early Saints had before any building, handbook, or hierarchy ever existed.
π 1. The Original Pattern
When Joseph knelt in the grove, the Lord didn’t tell him to start a corporation.
He said, “Join none of them.”
Then, years later, He said:
“It is expedient that the church be organized.” — D&C 20:1
Expedient — useful for a season.
The organization was meant to help a scattered people learn to serve, baptize, and gather the poor.
It was a scaffold for Zion, not Zion itself.
Even in those days the Lord warned:
“That they might have power to lay the foundation of the only true and living church.” — D&C 1:30
Might have power.
Not would forever.
The gift was conditional on faithfulness, not guaranteed by a charter.
π₯ 2. The Purpose of the Church
The Book of Mormon gives the same blueprint:
“Whosoever repenteth and is baptized in My name, the same is My church.” — D&C 10:67
“And they were called the church of Christ.” — Mosiah 18:17
Simple.
No office furniture required.
The Church’s purpose was to bring souls to the Peacemaker — to teach repentance, baptism, the Holy Ghost, and hearing His voice.
The Nemenhah Records echo this perfectly:
“Behold, the Tuhhuhl Nuhmehn was not built for power, but for teaching men to hear the Peacemaker for themselves.”
(Mohrhohnahyah 4:7–8)
Their gatherings were schools of the Spirit, not centers of control.
π️ 3. When the Structure Becomes the Savior
History shows what happens next:
people start serving the system instead of the Lord.
The Nemenhah lamented it:
“They built up their armies and their cities, and in this they justified themselves… but they did not preserve Tsiahn in their hearts.”
(Mohrhohnahyah 5:3–4)
The same drift happened in Nauvoo.
The Lord’s warning was clear:
“If you do not complete the house, you shall be rejected as a church, with your dead.” — D&C 124:32
The temple was meant as a gateway to personal communion, not as a fortress of authority.
When the gate shut, the people kept the walls and forgot the Voice.
πΏ 4. Why Many Still Stay
So why does God still allow the Church to exist?
Because He’s merciful.
He lets every generation have its nursery of faith, where sincere hearts can begin the journey.
The Nemenhah taught:
“The Lord doth use all peoples, even the fallen, for His own wise purpose, for their diligence and their industry.”
(Tsihohnayah Ahkehkthihm 14:77)
So yes — the LDS Church can still bless lives, feed the hungry, print the scriptures, and awaken longing.
But those who hear His call must keep walking past the nursery gate.
⚡ 5. The Real Church
The real Church is alive and well — but it isn’t headquartered in Salt Lake.
It’s wherever a soul repents and follows the Spirit.
It’s the Church of the Firstborn, written in heaven (Hebrews 12:23).
It’s the remnant who hear the Lamb’s voice and follow Him (1 Nephi 14:14).
The Nemenhah called it Tsiahn — the refuge built in the heart before it’s built in the land.
“They that hear His voice become His refuge, and He dwelleth in them.”
(Book of Tuhhuhl Nuhmehn 1:12)
π―️ 6. So… Do We Need the Church?
Maybe once, to learn the basics.
But the goal was never membership — it was communion.
Once you’ve found the Shepherd’s voice, you don’t keep following the fence.
The Church was a map.
Christ is the destination.
So yes, be grateful for the Church that introduced you to Him.
But don’t mistake the messenger for the Master.
“Come unto Me.”
— The invitation never said, Come unto headquarters.
✨ Final Thought
When the divine within begins to speak, and the Haymehnay confirms it, you’ve already entered the true and living Church — the one that cannot fall.
π️ The Church was the boat that got us across the river.
But once you’re standing with Christ on the shore,
you don’t keep rowing in circles.
