πΏ HOW TO HEAR JESUS IN THE QUIET MOMENTS
Talk to Jesus — Video 3
Hello friends.
It’s just the old man from the sticks again…
trying to walk honestly with Jesus…
and sharing what He’s been teaching me along the way.
Today’s message — Video 3 in our “Talk to Jesus” series — is a simple one, but it might be the most important:
π️ The Savior speaks most clearly… in the quiet moments.
Not in the storms.
Not in the noise.
Not in the commotion of religion.
But in the stillness of your heart.
And the scriptures — Bible, Book of Mormon, and the Nemenhah — all testify of this sacred pattern.
π₯ 1. THE STILL SMALL VOICE (Bible)
When Elijah ran for his life and hid in the cave, he expected God to show up with a roar.
Instead, this happened:
“The Lord was not in the wind… nor the earthquake… nor the fire.
But after the fire… a still small voice.”
— 1 Kings 19:11–12
That’s Video 3 in one line.
The Lord whispers.
Always has.
Always will.
✨ 2. THE BURNING-HEART REVELATION (Bible)
After the resurrection, Jesus walked with two disciples on the road to Emmaus.
They didn’t recognize Him at first.
It wasn’t a voice from heaven.
It wasn’t angels.
It wasn’t thunder.
It was something quieter:
“Did not our hearts burn within us,
while He talked with us by the way?”
— Luke 24:32
That’s how most of us hear Him.
A warmth.
A nudge.
A clarity.
A sudden understanding you didn’t have a moment ago.
π 3. HOW JESUS SPEAKS (Book of Mormon)
When the resurrected Christ appeared to the Nephites, He didn’t shout.
He whispered.
And they missed it the first time.
“They heard a voice as if it came out of heaven…
but they understood it not.”
— 3 Nephi 11:3
So He spoke again.
And again.
Finally, they opened their hearts — and the whisper became clear.
“It was not a harsh voice… neither a loud voice…
but it did pierce them to the very soul.”
— 3 Nephi 11:3
That’s how He talks.
Gentle.
Personal.
Piercing without being loud.
This is why quiet moments matter.
Because Jesus refuses to compete with noise.
πΎ 4. THE NEMENHAH: “HIS VOICE IS A BREATH UPON THE HEART”
The Nemenhah Records say it beautifully:
“The Peacemaker speaks as a breath upon the heart,
and only the quiet in spirit can hear Him.”
— Nemenhah, Tsihohnayah Ahkehkthihm 14
Another line says:
“He teaches in the quiet places,
and His whisper is known by the humble.”
These people lived it.
They built entire communities around stilling the mind so they could hear the Peacemaker’s counsel.
They knew the same truth Elijah knew:
If you want to hear God…
you have to quiet the world.
π 5. WHAT DO QUIET MOMENTS LOOK LIKE?
Not monasteries.
Not mountains.
Not temples of stone.
Just ordinary life:
• sitting in your truck before you go in the house
• a walk around the block
• turning off the TV for five minutes
• that moment before bed when the world finally goes silent
• the pause between your worries
• the deep breath when you’re overwhelmed
• reading scripture slowly instead of rushing
These are the sacred moments where heaven gets through.
π΅ 6. WHAT HE SOUNDS LIKE
Here’s the truth most people never learn:
Jesus doesn’t sound like words.
He sounds like peace.
Sometimes He gives thoughts.
Sometimes impressions.
Sometimes clarity.
Sometimes a few words.
Sometimes a scripture suddenly flowers open.
But it’s always the same signature:
His voice carries peace, light, gentleness, and truth.
Satan is loud.
Fear is loud.
Shame is loud.
Jesus is quiet.
He doesn’t shove.
He invites.
π 7. HOW TO HEAR HIM MORE CLEARLY
Here’s the pattern taught across every record you believe in:
✔ Be still — Psalm 46
✔ Ask in sincerity — James 1:5
✔ Believe He will answer — Ether 12
✔ Listen for peace — D&C 6
✔ Respond immediately to impressions — Alma 32
✔ Keep your heart soft and humble — 3 Nephi 12
✔ Seek Him in the quiet — Nemenhah Records
The more you respond,
the clearer His voice gets.
The less you respond,
the quieter it becomes.
π️ 8. A SIMPLE PRACTICE FOR THIS WEEK
Try this:
Once a day, give the Lord three quiet minutes.
That’s it.
Sit still.
Slow your breathing.
Whisper, “Speak, Lord… I’m listening.”
You’ll be surprised what comes.
Sometimes it’s a feeling.
Sometimes a picture.
Sometimes a memory.
Sometimes a prompting.
Sometimes nothing…
but the peace that means He’s near.
That’s hearing Jesus in the quiet.
πͺΆ FINAL THOUGHTS
Friends…
This world is loud.
Church is loud.
Politics are loud.
Even religion is loud.
But Jesus…
Jesus is never loud.
He stands at the door and knocks.
He doesn’t kick it in.
And when you quiet your heart,
you’ll feel it:
A whisper.
A warmth.
A knowing.
A presence.
That’s Him.
That’s the Way.
That’s how we walk with the Savior in these last days.
