ππ₯ JOSEPH’S FINAL DREAMS — WHEN THE SHIP STARTED TO SINK
ππ₯ JOSEPH’S FINAL DREAMS — WHEN THE SHIP STARTED TO SINK
(Book of Mormon, Bible & Nemenhah Witnesses)
π️ The Prophet’s Last Nightmares
Before his martyrdom, Joseph Smith dreamed three dreams — all pointing to one truth:
the Church he founded would one day drift from its moorings.
A sinking steamboat.
A burning ship.
A neglected farm overrun with weeds.
Each dream showed what happens when men build organizations faster than they build faith.
When ordinances become routine, and revelation becomes rare.
“Every man must take care of himself,” Joseph said.
That line wasn’t despair — it was a prophecy.
He saw the day when we’d all have to find the Savior personally — not through hierarchy, but through the Holy Spirit.
π’ The Sinking Ship — “Take Care of Yourselves”
That ship was the Church — tossed and leaking.
Joseph patched and prayed, but the water kept rising.
At last, he dove overboard and swam — free, faithful, alive.
The Book of Mormon saw it coming:
“They have all gone out of the way; they have become corrupted… because of pride, and false teachers, and false doctrine”
— 2 Nephi 28:11–14.
And the Bible saw it too:
“A great falling away shall come first, before that day of Christ.”
— 2 Thessalonians 2:3.
The Nemenhah Records confirm it plain:
“The Lord did use the Gentiles, for they were industrious and organized, to bring forth the Record unto the remnant — yet even they fell away, loving gain more than God.”
— Book of Tsihohnayah Ahkehkthihm 14:63–66.
So the ship still sails today — polished, wealthy, admired — but taking on water.
And Christ still calls from the waves: “Fear not, it is I.”
Will we stay on the boat, or walk toward His voice?
π₯ The Burning Steamboat — Fire from Within
Phelps’s version showed fire spreading from the ship to the town — an inward burn before the outward ruin.
That matches Doctrine and Covenants 112:25:
“Upon my house shall it begin, and from my house shall it go forth.”
The Nemenhah foresaw the same:
“Fire shall begin in the house of My friends, for they shall set their own altars aflame with pride.”
— Mohrhohnahyah 15:7.
The fire isn’t persecution — it’s apostasy from within.
False peace, purchased comfort, and blind obedience — all burn hotter than brimstone.
π️ The Farm Gone to Weeds — Neglected Stewardship
In his last dream, Joseph returns to a farm once alive with covenant people.
Now the weeds choke the good ground; the barn’s doors are gone; men fight with knives.
That’s the image of Kirtland, Nauvoo, and even Salt Lake — when the Spirit left the barn and men started fighting over who owned the field.
The Book of Mormon warned:
“They have polluted the holy church of God.”
— Mormon 8:38.
And the Nemenhah echoed:
“They shall build up many temples unto My name, but I shall not dwell therein, for My house is with the pure in heart.”
— Ayahtkuhyaht Nemenhah, Book of Mohrhohnahyah 8:12.
It’s not about bricks or barns anymore.
It’s about hearts that remember the soil from which Zion grows.
π♂️ Swimming & Walking on Water — The True Doctrine of Christ
When Joseph dives in and swims, that’s the Doctrine of Christ in motion —
Faith. Repentance. Baptism. Receiving the Holy Ghost.
Not through institution, but through encounter.
“This is the way; and there is none other way nor name given under heaven whereby man can be saved.”
— 2 Nephi 31:21.
The Nemenhah Peacemaker said it this way:
“Seek not to be carried in the ship of another, but learn to walk upon the waters of belief, for it is I who make firm the waves beneath thy feet.”
— Book of the Tuhhuhl Nuhmehn 1:37.
That’s Joseph’s message from beyond the veil:
Don’t cling to a sinking ship.
Walk on the water toward the Living Christ.
Swim if you must. But move toward His voice.
πΎ What It Means for Us Today
Joseph’s dreams were not just about 1844 — they were about now.
The boat is today’s institution.
The farm is today’s worship.
The weeds are our complacency.
But the Savior still calls over the waves:
“Come unto Me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
— Matthew 11:28.
When you hear Him — in the temple of your own heart — you’ll know where Zion really is.
It’s not a corporation.
It’s a covenant.
It’s the voice that says, “Be not afraid.”
π§π₯ Final Reflection
The last dreams of Joseph Smith are not tales of defeat — they’re invitations.
They remind us that every dispensation ends when people choose structure over Spirit, and begins anew when one heart hears Him again.
So if the ship burns, let it burn.
If the barn falls, let it fall.
The Peacemaker is still walking the water, and His hand is still stretched out.
