πŸ•Š️ A Gentle Thought to Begin

Friends, I’ve been pondering something Paul taught long ago—that there’s a time for milk and a time for meat.

“I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it.”
— 1 Corinthians 3:2

In every ward, we’ve all seen this challenge: people at all different stages of faith gathered into one classroom. Some are new and hungry to learn the basics. Others have spent a lifetime studying and yearning to go deeper. The result? Some feel underfed; others overwhelmed.

This isn’t anyone’s fault—it’s just part of our growing pains as a people of faith. But maybe the Lord is quietly inviting us to consider something deeper than class structure: how each of us personally learns to hear His voice.

πŸ“– What “Milk” and “Meat” Really Mean

Milk is beautiful. It’s where we all start—faith in Jesus Christ, repentance, baptism, the gift of the Holy Ghost.

But Paul—and later, the Savior Himself—calls us to grow beyond that first nourishment.
We are meant to move from learning about Christ to being taught by Christ.

“The Spirit will show unto you all things what ye should do.” — 2 Nephi 32:5

That’s what the Book of Mormon teaches so clearly: the Holy Ghost is given to confirm truth, to guide us in every decision, and to bring all things to our remembrance. It’s the Spirit—not the manual—that turns “milk” into “meat.”

πŸ›️ The Classroom and the Quiet Room

The Church provides wonderful helps—Sunday School, Come Follow Me, group discussion, structure. These are blessings. But they are meant to point us to the real Teacher, not replace Him.

The deepest learning happens when we take the scriptures into our quiet moments—our own upper rooms, our meadows, our still places—and let the Holy Ghost write truth upon our hearts.

That’s when we begin to taste “meat.”
That’s when the gospel stops being information and becomes transformation.

πŸ”₯ The True Source of “Meat”

Whether you’re in a chapel, a classroom, or sitting beneath a tree—if you’re feeling the Holy Ghost confirm the truth of what you’re studying, you are already feasting on the “meat” of the gospel.

That is the difference between religion and relationship.

Religion can hand you forms, lessons, and programs.
But relationship comes only when you learn to hear Him.

πŸ‘‚ Don’t Follow the Robe — Follow the Voice

There’s a scene in Lehi’s dream (1 Nephi 8) that few people talk about.
Before Lehi finds the tree of life, a man in a white robe appears and beckons him to follow. Lehi follows—trusting the robe—but is led into darkness.

It’s a sobering image. A white robe often symbolizes holiness, purity, or authority. Yet in this case, it represents something deceptive: the appearance of light without the voice of truth.

It’s a loving warning for all of us—don’t follow appearances, positions, or robes.
Even good men and women, even well-meaning leaders, can make mistakes.

Follow the Voice.
Follow the Spirit that confirms truth to your soul.

That’s how we stay in the light—by heeding the whisper that aligns perfectly with the Savior’s teachings of love, humility, repentance, and faith in Him alone.

“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” — John 10:27

🌾 From Milk to Meat

Maybe the goal isn’t to divide classes into “milk” and “meat,” but to invite hearts to progress—each at their own pace, through personal revelation.

You’ll know when you’re ready for more.
The Spirit will lead you there.
He’s been doing that since the beginning.

πŸ’¬ A Soft Invitation

I love the Church. I love the Saints. I love the scriptures that point me back to Jesus Christ.

But above all, I love Him—the Voice that speaks peace to every honest heart.

Let’s honor the structure we have, but never stop seeking the presence of the One who gave it. Let’s learn together, not just from manuals or men, but from the Spirit that confirms truth directly to each soul that asks in faith.

“Ask, and ye shall receive; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.” — 3 Nephi 27:29
