⚖️ IS THE LDS CHURCH THE ONLY TRUE CHURCH ON THE FACE OF THE LAND? (A Call to Remember Who We Are)
⚖️ IS THE LDS CHURCH THE ONLY TRUE CHURCH ON THE FACE OF THE LAND?
(A Call to Remember Who We Are)
๐ฟ A Stirring in My Soul
A dear sister recently shared a verse from Ephesians 2 that struck deep in me:
“Ye are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone.”
It reminded me of how the Church began — not as a corporation, but as a living body, centered in Christ. Yet I can’t help but wonder… have we drifted from that living foundation?
Every time I hear the phrase, “This is the only true and living church on the face of the land,” a quiet question rises in my heart:
Is it still living?
Living means breathing with the Spirit, receiving fresh revelation, and walking humbly with our God — not just following an institution, but hearing His voice ourselves.
๐ The Lord’s Pattern in D&C 124
In the revelation given at Nauvoo, the Lord made something plain:
“Let no man pay him, or any of my bishops, for their labour in administering the stewardship which I have appointed unto them;
Yet let my servants who are appointed as stewards over the temporal things of my church have their needs supplied out of the same; for all things are the Lord’s.”
— D&C 124:115
The Lord wasn’t against helping His servants — He simply drew a clear line between support and salary.
And in that same revelation came a sobering warning:
“If ye do not these things at the end of the appointment, ye shall be rejected as a church, with your dead.”
— D&C 124:32
That’s not the voice of anger. That’s the voice of a Father saying, “You’re drifting — come back.”
๐ฅ The Condemnation That Still Stands
Earlier, in D&C 84, the Lord said His Church was under condemnation for taking the Book of Mormon lightly.
“And they shall remain under this condemnation until they repent and remember the new covenant.”
— D&C 84:57
He never said it was lifted.
And condemnation doesn’t mean hatred — it means He’s still waiting.
The Lord’s love is perfect, but so is His honesty.
He calls out unbelief not to shame us, but to invite us back into faith.
๐ชถ What the Nemenhah Records Say
The Nemenhah Records echo the same pattern. The Peacemaker warned:
“Let not the ministers of the people live of the people, but let all have in common, even as the breath of life is shared.”
— Book of Mohmeht Ahkehkt 3:18
Among the Nemenhah, there were no paid priests — only consecrated stewards who labored with their hands and hearts. They shared what they had, built small councils guided by the Mothers and Fathers, and lived the law of common consent and charity.
They believed “the greatest among you shall be your servant.”
That’s the same pattern the Savior taught. It’s simple, pure, and holy — and it invites every soul to participate, not to rely on hierarchy or titles.
๐ The Book of Mormon’s Warning
Nephi saw this same corruption coming:
“Priestcrafts are that men preach and set themselves up for a light unto the world, that they may get gain and praise of the world;
But they seek not the welfare of Zion.”
— 2 Nephi 26:29
He saw churches built up for gain — good people led by systems that slowly replaced the Spirit with structure.
And yet, Nephi also saw hope: a remnant who would awake, hear the Savior’s voice again, and rebuild Zion upon consecration and love.
๐ฐ What We See Today
Today, the institutional Church acknowledges that the Twelve and Seventy receive a “living allowance” — roughly $175,000–$180,000 a year, drawn from investment income.
Officially, local bishops and stake presidents remain unpaid.
I don’t share this to mock or condemn — only to point out how far we’ve come from the Lord’s plain command:
“Let no man pay him.”
When support turns into salary, and stewardship into profession, something subtle shifts.
We lose the beauty of service without price.
๐ A Message to My Fellow Saints
I know the goodness of this people.
I was raised among them. I’ve seen their sacrifices, their kindness, their faith.
This isn’t about tearing anyone down — it’s about calling us home.
The true and living church isn’t proven by buildings, budgets, or global reach.
It’s proven by whether Christ Himself is at the center — whether He’s the one we follow, not just those who claim His authority.
“Where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I in the midst of them.”
— Matthew 18:20
That is the true Church — humble, Spirit-filled, alive.
๐ฏ️ The Way Back
The early Saints were told they “might have power to lay the foundation of the only true and living church.” (D&C 1:30)
That means it wasn’t guaranteed. It depended on obedience, humility, and continual revelation.
The foundation was laid — but the building remains unfinished.
If we truly want Zion, we must rebuild from the inside out:
No paid ministry, only consecrated service.
No blind following, only hearing His voice.
No self-promotion, only Christ-exaltation.
No condemnation, only repentance and renewal.
The Savior still stands at the door and knocks.
๐ธ Final Appeal
I don’t write this in anger. I write it in love.
Because I know He loves His people — even when they wander.
He has not cast them off; He is calling them to rise again.
So if you feel stirred, that’s not me — that’s Him.
And if you feel pricked, don’t be ashamed — be grateful. It means your heart still beats.
Let’s come unto Christ again — not through robes or rank, but through revelation and repentance.
Let’s make the Church living again.
๐️ “Come unto Me,” He says, “and I will give you rest.”
