🌿 Moroni: The Prophet of the Last Days, the Keeper of the Four Directions

🌿 Moroni: The Prophet of the Last Days, the Keeper of the Four Directions

Hello friends.

It’s me again…
just the old man with the scriptures spread out on the table,
thinking about a man we all grew up with…

Moroni.

But not the statue.
Not the angel on a spire.
Not the mythical hero we turned him into.

I’m thinking about the real Moroni—
the man who watched a nation fall,
buried his father,
wandered alone,
and still somehow found enough love in his heart
to leave behind the teachings we need most in our day.

If King Benjamin gave us the WayWalk,
Moroni teaches us how to stay on it when the world collapses.

Let’s walk through three of the most powerful chapters ever written:

  • Moroni 7 — The Way of Discernment and Charity

  • Moroni 8 — The Way of Mercy and Sanctification

  • Moroni 9 — The Way of Endurance When Surrounded by Darkness

And as we go, notice something:

These three chapters follow the same four-direction pattern as the Medicine Wheel…
the same Way the Nemenhah teach…
the same path the Peacemaker walks His children through.

Moroni was WayWalking long before we had a name for it.

🟑 MORONI 7 — The East Gate: Learning to Discern Light from Darkness

(Moroni 7:12–19)

Moroni opens his greatest sermon with a sunrise.

He teaches the law of discernment:

“Every thing which inviteth to do good… is of God.”
(Moroni 7:13)

“Every thing which persuadeth to do evil… is of the devil.”
(Moroni 7:17)

No confusion.
No complicated charts.
No institutional middleman.

He gives us the simplest, purest light:

Good = God
Evil = Not God

Then he says:

“See that ye do not judge wrongfully…”
(Moroni 7:18)

Meaning:

Don’t let religion replace discernment.
Don’t let leaders replace the Spirit.
Don’t let noise replace the Voice.

This is the East:

  • Awakening

  • Clarity

  • Light

  • Discernment

Moroni is telling us:

If you cannot discern good from evil by the Spirit of Christ,
you cannot walk the Way.

And he’s right.

πŸ”΄ MORONI 7 — The South Gate: Faith, Hope, and Charity

(Moroni 7:20–48)

Then Moroni turns south—toward the fire of the heart.

He teaches that:

  • Faith is the assurance that God keeps His word.
    (7:33–34)

  • Hope is the expectation of becoming pure through Christ.
    (7:41)

  • Charity is the love of Christ flowing through us, not from us.
    (7:47–48)

He ends with the most beautiful invitation in scripture:

“Pray with all the energy of heart,
that ye may be filled with this love.”
(Moroni 7:48)

This is the South Gate:

  • Choosing the Way

  • Covenant willingness

  • Aligning your heart with Heaven

  • Letting the Peacemaker write His love inside you

Moroni isn’t teaching theology.
He’s teaching alignment.

MORONI 8 — The West Gate: The Mercy of Christ and the Death of Fear

(Moroni 8:8–26)

Chapter 8 is often read as a baptism chapter.

But what it really is…
is a West Gate chapter.

Mormon teaches his son:

“Perfect love casteth out all fear.”
(Moroni 8:16)

Fear is the first thing that must die on the West side.

And then:

“Little children are alive in Christ.”
(Moroni 8:12)

Meaning:

All of us enter the Way the same way little children do—
empty-handed, trusting, undefended.

Mormon even warns that harshness and religious legalism are:

“solemn mockery before God.”
(Moroni 8:9)

The West is where false beliefs die.
Where shame dies.
Where fear dies.
Where our old identity dies.

Mormon tells Moroni:

Let Christ do the cleansing.
Let His mercy wash away your fear.
Let His love remake you.

And Moroni records it for us
because he knew we would need the same mercy.

❄️ MORONI 9 — The North Gate: How to Remain Christ’s When Surrounded by Corruption

(Moroni 9:1–26)

Now we come to one of the darkest chapters in scripture.

Mormon writes to his son
while surrounded by horror:

  • Nephites committing atrocities

  • Lamanites matching them

  • No institution left

  • No safety left

  • No righteousness left

Moroni includes this letter because it teaches the North Gate:

How to stay aligned with Christ
when the world descends into chaos.

Mormon says:

“My son, be faithful in Christ.”
(Moroni 9:25)

“May Christ lift thee up.”
(9:25)

“May His sufferings and death… rest in your mind forever.”
(9:25)

When institutions collapse,
when society crumbles,
when violence sweeps the land…

Mormon teaches Moroni:

The North Gate is endurance.
Steadfast love.
Patience.
Focus.
Becoming immovable in Christ.

This is the direction of spiritual adulthood.

Mormon is telling Moroni:

“Stand.
Stay aligned.
Christ Himself will carry you.”

And Moroni passes that message to us
because he saw our day
and knew we would face the same storm.

πŸŒ€ THE FULL PATTERN: Moroni Walks the Medicine Wheel

Here is the map:

ChapterDirectionTheme
Moroni 7:12–19EastDiscernment, Light, Awakening
Moroni 7:20–48SouthFaith, Hope, Charity, Willingness
Moroni 8WestMercy, Fear Removed, Transformation
Moroni 9NorthEndurance, Identity in Christ, Steadfastness

This is not coincidence.

Moroni was trained in the Way.

The Peacemaker taught both the Nephite prophets
and the Nemenhah prophets the same four-direction path.

Moroni lived both worlds.

He walked the Wheel before he even had language for it.

🌿 Why Moroni Speaks So Powerfully to Our Day

Because Moroni saw us.

He saw our wars.
He saw our religion without power.
He saw our temples without hearts.
He saw our divisions, our fears, our modern Pahbaylohn.

And he gave us exactly what we would need:

  • Discernment (Moroni 7)

  • Covenant willingness (Moroni 7)

  • Mercy and transformation (Moroni 8)

  • Endurance and identity (Moroni 9)

Moroni is not teaching doctrine.
He is teaching survival.
Spiritual survival.

He is teaching the Way.

And he is calling us to walk it.
