๐ฟ One of the Greatest Talks in the History of the World: King Benjamin’s Address
Hello my friends.
It’s me again…
just the old man sitting here with the scriptures open, letting the words settle in my heart the way dew settles on the ground at first light.
Today I want to walk with you through what I believe is one of the greatest talks ever delivered in the history of this world:
King Benjamin’s Address in Mosiah 2–5.
But not as a lecture.
Not as a doctrine checklist.
Not as a “follow these steps” manual.
I want to show you what I now see:
King Benjamin was leading his people through a sacred journey…
a four-direction walk…
a WayWalking ceremony…
a path into the presence of Christ.
This wasn’t just a sermon.
It was a transformation.
Let’s take the walk together.
๐ก 1. THE EAST: Awakening to the Light
Benjamin begins by facing his people toward the temple… toward the rising sun.
He doesn’t scold them.
He doesn’t threaten them.
He simply asks them to awake:
“Open your ears.”
“Open your hearts.”
“Consider the goodness of God.”
This is the moment the light breaks over the mountain.
The East is where the walk always begins —
with gratitude, clarity, and the realization that God has been better to us than we have ever been to Him.
Benjamin is gently telling them:
Wake up.
See the truth of who God is.
Let the light in.
๐ด 2. THE SOUTH: Covenant, Willingness, and the Desire to Walk With God
Next, Benjamin teaches the commandments.
But listen closely… he’s not teaching rules.
He’s teaching relationship.
He speaks of Christ who will come.
He speaks of salvation through His name.
He speaks of what it means to become a child of God.
This is the South — the place of:
choosing
covenant
humility
willingness
Benjamin does not force a covenant.
He invites one.
He’s saying:
“If you believe these things…
see that you do them.”
Not out of fear.
Not out of obligation.
But because your heart wants to walk with Christ.
This is where the journey stops being theoretical
and becomes personal.
⚫ 3. THE WEST: The Mighty Change of Heart
Then comes the moment that changes everything.
The people fall.
They cry out for mercy.
The Spirit fills them.
Joy washes over them.
Their hearts are changed.
Their guilt is swept away.
This is the West direction —
the place where the old self dies
and a new creation begins.
Benjamin doesn’t control this moment.
He doesn’t engineer it.
He doesn’t take credit for it.
This is the pure work of Christ.
It is the same transformation the Nemenhah call
the West Gate —
the moment the Peacemaker reaches inside and reshapes the heart.
Benjamin’s message here is simple:
“Let the Spirit remake you.”
This is repentance in its purest form —
not punishment,
but renewal.
⚪ 4. THE NORTH: Becoming a Covenant People
Finally, Benjamin brings them home.
He invites them to:
take upon themselves the name of Christ
become His sons and daughters
be steadfast and immovable
retain a remission of their sins
live in love, service, and generosity
This is the North — the place of:
identity
wisdom
endurance
becoming
Benjamin’s people are no longer listeners.
They are no longer spectators.
They have become a new people.
This is the same North direction the Nemenhah teach —
the place where the heart stands fully in Christ and says:
“I am His.
And because I am His, I will serve His children.”
That’s why Benjamin ends by telling them to
“impart of your substance to the poor,”
not because they have to,
but because love is now their nature.
๐ The Whole Address Is a Sacred Walk
King Benjamin’s Address is not random.
It is a perfectly structured spiritual journey:
| Direction | Spiritual Movement | King Benjamin’s Message |
|---|---|---|
| East | Awakening | Hear God, see His goodness |
| South | Covenant | Choose Christ, believe, obey |
| West | Mighty Change | Repentance, mercy, new heart |
| North | Becoming | Take His name, live His love |
He walked them through the gates of transformation
in the same pattern the ancient fathers knew
and the Nemenhah preserved.
It is a WayWalk.
A Medicine Wheel.
A journey into Tsiahn, the peace of the Peacemaker.
And it is one of the greatest talks ever delivered…
because it teaches the greatest truth ever offered:
Christ can change the human heart.
Not someday.
Not after we die.
But now.
