🌿 Walking With Jesus When You’re Tempted to Go Back

(Companion Blog for Video 33)

If you haven’t watched the video yet, I suggest starting there.
This blog is for moments when the road ahead feels uncertain and the past begins to look safer or simpler.

And as always, let me say this gently at the start:
If you have questions, or if something here stirs confusion or fear, please feel free to ask. I don’t claim to have all the answers — but I care, and I’ll do my best to respond as soon as I can.

You don’t have to carry this alone.

There are moments in the walk with Jesus
when you feel the pull to go back.

Back to what felt familiar.
Back to what felt safer.
Back to what required less faith.

Not because you don’t love Him.
Not because you’re turning away.

But because forward feels costly.

🌱 The Pull Back Is Often About Fear, Not Faithlessness

When things get difficult, the heart remembers comfort.

The Israelites felt this deeply after leaving Egypt.

“Would God we had died by the hand of the Lord… for ye have brought us forth into this wilderness.”
(Exodus 16:3)

They weren’t wicked.
They were afraid.

Going back often looks tempting
when the future feels unclear.

πŸ“– Jesus Knew People Would Feel This

Jesus never hid the cost of following Him.

When many turned back, He asked His disciples a simple question:

“Will ye also go away?”
(John 6:67)

Peter answered with honesty, not certainty:

“Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.”
(John 6:68)

Peter didn’t say everything made sense.
He said he knew who he trusted.

🌿 The Book of Mormon: Moving Forward Without Knowing Everything

The Book of Mormon honors people who kept walking
even when the way forward was unclear.

Nephi often moved forward
with incomplete understanding.

“I was led by the Spirit, not knowing beforehand the things which I should do.”
(1 Nephi 4:6)

Faith does not always feel confident.
Sometimes it feels like choosing forward
simply because turning back no longer fits.

πŸ”₯ The Nemenhah Records: Once the Way Is Seen

The Nemenhah teachings speak to this moment with clarity.

The elders teach that once the Way is seen,
it cannot be unseen.

Even when returning looks easier,
the soul remembers what it has tasted.

The Peacemaker does not condemn those who hesitate.
He waits patiently — inviting, not forcing.

Those who continue forward do so
not because it is easy,
but because truth has already taken root.

🌱 When the Past Starts Calling

If you’re hearing thoughts like:

• “Life was simpler back then”
• “Maybe I went too far”
• “Maybe I should just stop here”

Pause gently.

Those thoughts don’t mean you’re failing.
They often mean you’re standing at a threshold.

The Psalmist spoke to this tension:

“Why art thou cast down, O my soul?… hope thou in God.”
(Psalm 42:11)

Hope looks forward —
even when memory pulls backward.

πŸ•Š️ You Don’t Have to Rush the Decision

This matters.

Jesus does not force people to keep walking.

He invites.

If you need time, take time.
If you need quiet, take quiet.

And if you need to ask questions — even hard ones —
please feel free to ask. I will listen, and I’ll try to help as best I can.

Sometimes staying with Jesus
means staying honest about fear.

🌿 A Gentle Encouragement

If you’re tempted to go back,
don’t shame yourself.

Just notice what’s calling you —
comfort, certainty, familiarity.

Then notice this too:

You’re still here.
Still listening.
Still walking.

That means something.

Jesus is patient with people at crossroads.
And He walks beside those who hesitate.
