73 ๐ชถ The Only Fail-safe Test
๐ชถ The Fail Safe Test
Use One Simple Test
There will be times in your life when everything feels convincing.
Smart people will speak.
Confident people will speak.
Religious people will speak.
Passionate people will speak.
And sometimes they will all sound right.
When that happens, don’t panic.
Just use one simple test.
Does this draw me closer to Jesus?
Not closer to a movement.
Not closer to an argument.
Not closer to being right.
Closer to Him.
I didn’t always use that test.
Sometimes I measured things by whether they sounded intelligent.
Or whether they felt exciting.
Or whether they made me feel bold.
But excitement is not the same as Christ.
Boldness is not the same as humility.
And being right is not the same as being close to Him.
Here’s what I’ve noticed.
If something truly comes from Him, it will produce certain fruit.
It will soften you.
It will make you more patient.
It will make you more honest about yourself.
It will increase your love.
It will make repentance feel possible.
It will bring light without arrogance.
“By their fruits ye shall know them.” — Matthew 7:20
That’s not complicated.
It’s practical.
There were seasons when I learned truths that felt shocking.
Waking up can feel disorienting.
But even truth can become unhealthy if it pulls you away from Christ and into constant agitation.
You can be technically correct and spiritually distant at the same time.
That was an important lesson for me.
Truth should anchor you.
Not inflame you.
If something makes you constantly restless, angry, superior, or afraid…
pause.
Ask the question again.
Does this draw me closer to Jesus?
This test will simplify your life.
You won’t need to win every debate.
You won’t need to chase every new idea.
You won’t need to react to every headline.
You only need to stay near Him.
If you are near Him, you are safe — even if you don’t understand everything.
If you are far from Him, no amount of information will steady you.
There is a lot of noise in this world.
There always has been.
There always will be.
The safest place you can stand is close to Christ.
Close enough that His voice matters more than everyone else’s.
That’s the test.
Simple.
But it will keep you oriented when others lose their balance.

๐️ REAL-LIFE EXAMPLES OF THE TEST
Over time, I started testing everything with one quiet question:
“Does this actually bring me closer to Jesus Christ?”
And honestly… that question changed my life.
Not overnight.
Not perfectly.
But slowly and deeply.
Here are a few examples of what I mean.
๐ค Powerful Speakers
I used to hear powerful religious speakers and walk away feeling emotional and inspired.
And sometimes that inspiration was real.
But over time, I started realizing that emotion and closeness to Christ are not always the same thing.
So I began asking myself:
“After the emotion fades… do I actually feel more loving, peaceful, forgiving, humble, and connected to the Savior?”
Sometimes the answer was yes.
Sometimes it honestly wasn’t.
๐ง Rabbit Holes
I’ve gone down many rabbit holes over the years.
Church history.
Science.
Prophecy.
Ancient records.
End-times teachings.
Conspiracies.
All kinds of things.
Some of those studies genuinely pushed me toward Christ, repentance, prayer, and scripture.
Others left me anxious, angry, prideful, distracted, or spiritually exhausted.
Eventually I realized something very simple:
Information alone does not save us.
Jesus does.
๐จ๐ฆ My Son
One of the moments that really made me stop and think deeply was when my oldest son stepped away from church activity.
What surprised me was not rebellion.
It was hearing him say something like:
“Now I finally have more time to actually do what Jesus taught.”
That statement stayed with me.
Not because I agreed with every conclusion.
Not because I stopped believing in God.
And not because I wanted to throw away faith.
But because it forced me to ask deeper questions about what truly brings a person closer to Christ.
๐ The Simpler It Became
The older I get, the simpler things seem to become.
I still believe truth matters deeply.
But more and more, I find myself returning to the Savior’s actual teachings:
Love God.
Love people.
Forgive.
Serve.
Pray.
Repent.
Help the poor.
Walk humbly.
Listen for His voice.
That is where peace lives.
๐ฟ My Honest Conclusion
I’m not asking anyone to throw away their faith.
I’m simply inviting all of us — myself included — to keep asking the most important question:
“Is this bringing me closer to Jesus Christ?”
Because in the end…
He is the destination.
