Is the Entire Book of Mormon a Giant Chiasm?

(Hidden Patterns in Scripture Series)

🧭 Opening

Over the last few videos we’ve been talking about something called chiasmus.

A mirror pattern ancient writers often used.

Ideas move toward a center point…

and then mirror outward again.

We saw it in Alma’s conversion.

We saw it in King Benjamin’s sermon.

We even saw hints of it in the story of Christ appearing to the people.

But some students of scripture have noticed something even bigger.

Something that made me stop and think.

📜 A Much Larger Pattern

When you step back and look at the Book of Mormon as a whole, the story seems to move toward one central moment.

The appearance of Jesus Christ in 3 Nephi.

Everything before that moment builds toward it.

And everything afterward reflects what happened because of it.

Almost like the entire narrative is pointing toward that event.

🌿 A Simplified Way to See It

If we step way back and simplify the flow of the Book of Mormon, it can look something like this:

A — Lehi’s family leaves Jerusalem
B — The Nephite and Lamanite nations form
C — Prophets warn the people to repent
D — Cycles of war and righteousness
E — Christ appears to the people in 3 Nephi
D — The people live in righteousness and peace
C — Pride and warnings from prophets return
B — The nations collapse again
A — The final records are preserved for the future

Everything leads toward the center.

Christ.

✨ The Center of the Book

And right in the middle of the entire record is the moment when Christ appears to the people.

He teaches them.

Blesses their children.

Invites them to come to Him.

That moment sits at the heart of the entire story.

🪶 A Talking Feather Thought

Now I’m not saying the whole book was intentionally written this way.

But I do find it interesting.

Because if the writers were thinking in these kinds of patterns…

the message becomes very clear.

Everything leads to Christ.

And everything after reflects what happens when people follow Him — or when they turn away.

🌱 Why This Matters

Sometimes when we read scripture, we focus only on the individual stories.

But when you step back and look at the whole record, you begin to see a larger picture.

The writers were constantly pointing to the same truth.

The center of everything is Jesus Christ.

🌄 The Invitation

Next time you read the Book of Mormon, try something interesting.

Instead of just reading the chapters one by one…

step back and look at the whole story.

Ask yourself:

Where is this record pointing?

You may notice that the entire book keeps guiding the reader toward one central moment.

Christ appearing.

📜 THE CENTER IS NOT HIDDEN — IT’S DECLARED

For those who want to check this idea, the Book of Mormon itself tells us what the record is centered on.

🌿 The Purpose of the Record

Book of Mormon — 2 Nephi 25:26
- “We talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ…”

👉 The writers are clear about their focus

- Christ defines His doctrine
- Warns against adding more

🔁 A SIMPLE WAY TO SEE THE WHOLE BOOK

Whether or not it was written as a perfect chiasm…

the pattern still holds:

Everything points toward Christ
Everything after shows what happens when we follow Him
And what happens when we don’t

As you read, you might ask:

👉 Is this drawing me toward Christ…
👉 or just teaching me information about Him?

Because the writers didn’t just preserve history.

They built a record that points.

Whether by design or by inspiration…

the message is the same:

👉 Everything leads to Him

And once you see that…

it’s hard to read the book the same way again.

If this pattern is real…

then the Book of Mormon is not just:

A history

It’s a map

Showing:

👉 What leads to Christ
👉 What happens when He is received
👉 And what happens when He is forgotten

🕊️ FINAL THOUGHT

You don’t have to prove this structure.

You can just read and feel it.

Because whether written this way on purpose…

or shaped by something higher…

👉 The message is unmistakable:

Everything
points
to Him
