๐ The Ones Who Make Things Beautiful
๐ The Ones Who Make Things Beautiful
A Father's Day Morning Thought
This morning I was walking above my home as the sun rose over the valley.
The mountains were glowing.
Birds were singing.
The city below was waking up.
And as I looked around, a thought kept returning to me.
We live in a beautiful world.
Not just a functional world.
A beautiful world.
Flowers.
Trees.
Gardens.
Families.
Homes.
Life itself.
And it made me think about something I have observed for most of my 74 years.
๐ฟ Who Makes Things Beautiful?
Throughout my life I have worked with a lot of men.
Men build roads.
Men build houses.
Men build businesses.
Men build churches.
There is honor in that.
But I have also noticed something else.
Very often, it is the women who make those things beautiful.
A man may build a house.
A woman turns it into a home.
A man may build a chapel.
A woman fills it with warmth.
A man may build a family.
A mother gives it life.
๐ธ What I Have Seen In Church
I have attended church for over seven decades.
I have served in many callings.
I have sat in countless Priesthood meetings and Relief Society meetings.
And over the years I noticed something.
The women often bring beauty wherever they go.
The tables are decorated.
The rooms feel welcoming.
Thought and care are put into the details.
The lessons are prepared with love.
The sisters remember birthdays.
They remember needs.
They remember who is hurting.
Meanwhile, many of us men have probably had the experience of walking into Priesthood meeting, opening the manual, and saying:
"Okay, what lesson are we on today?"
That is not criticism.
It is simply an observation.
Women often bring a different gift.
They bring life.
They bring warmth.
They bring beauty.
❤️ Who Does The Quiet Work?
Another thing I have noticed over the years is that much of the work that holds a ward together is often done quietly.
Meals delivered.
Phone calls made.
Cards sent.
Children taught.
Families remembered.
People comforted.
Much of that work is done by faithful women.
The men may conduct the meetings.
The men may hold interviews.
The men may stand at the pulpit.
But behind the scenes there are often countless women serving, nurturing, teaching, comforting, and holding things together.
Most of them will never receive much recognition for it.
Yet the kingdom would struggle without them.
๐ What The Book of Mormon Teaches
The Book of Mormon rarely praises power.
It praises service.
It praises sacrifice.
It praises humility.
It praises charity.
King Benjamin taught service.
The Savior taught love.
Moroni taught charity.
Again and again the scriptures point us toward the qualities that build families and communities.
Those qualities are not exclusively feminine.
But many of us first learned them from women.
๐ชถ What The Nemenhah Records Teach
One of the things that stood out to me in the Nemenhah records was the respect shown toward mothers and women.
In many places, women are portrayed as protectors of the people, guardians of wisdom, and preservers of the family.
The records describe councils of mothers whose voices carried significant influence within the community.
These were not symbolic positions.
They were essential positions.
The reasoning was simple.
Women understood things that affected future generations.
Women carried life.
Women nurtured life.
Women protected life.
Because of that, their wisdom was considered vital to the health of the nation.
The Nemenhah records repeatedly present strong families as the foundation of Zion, and women are shown as central to preserving that foundation.
๐ Creation Testifies
As I continued my walk, another thought came.
Creation itself seems to teach this lesson.
The earth receives seed and brings forth life.
A mother receives life and brings forth life.
The earth nourishes.
A mother nourishes.
The earth beautifies.
A mother beautifies.
Perhaps these patterns are not accidents.
Perhaps they are reminders.
๐ A Thought About Heaven
I do not claim to understand everything about heaven.
There is much I do not know.
But when I look around creation, when I think about my own mother, my wife, my daughters, my granddaughters, and the faithful women I have known throughout my life, I find it impossible to believe that heaven does not place tremendous value upon women.
If we truly have a Heavenly Father, then surely we also have a Heavenly Mother worthy of honor, gratitude, and respect.
Not an afterthought.
Not a secondary figure.
But someone whose influence can be seen reflected throughout creation itself.
❤️ What I Know
Maybe I am just an old man taking a walk on a Father's Day morning.
Maybe I do not understand all the mysteries of heaven.
But after 74 years of watching families, wards, communities, and churches, one thing seems clear to me.
The world often notices the people who lead.
But many times it is the women who quietly hold everything together.
And perhaps we ought to thank them a little more often.
Happy Father's Day.
And thank heaven for mothers.
