The Nemenhah Records Sitting On My Shelf
The Nemenhah Records Sitting On My
I have a set of books sitting in my home.
Most visitors walk right past them.
A few stop and ask about them.
When they do, I usually smile and say:
"Those are the Nemenhah Records."
Then the questions begin.
"What are they?"
"Who wrote them?"
"Are they like the Book of Mormon?"
"Should Christians read them?"
Over the years I have learned that people can have very strong opinions about records they have never actually opened.
For me, the Nemenhah Records have never been about replacing the Bible.
They have never been about replacing the Book of Mormon.
And they certainly have never been about replacing Jesus Christ.
Quite the opposite.
They have helped me appreciate Christ even more.
๐ฟ My Journey
I grew up believing what many of us believed.
The Bible was true.
The Book of Mormon was true.
And anything outside those books was probably suspicious.
Later I met Christians who felt exactly the same way about the Bible.
They would say:
"We have a Bible. We need no more Bible."
As a missionary, I often responded:
"But what if God has spoken to other people?"
It seemed like a reasonable question then.
And it still seems reasonable today.
Because if God is alive, why would He stop speaking?
Why would He stop teaching?
Why would He stop revealing truth?
Joseph Smith himself taught that we should receive truth from wherever it can be found.
The Ninth Article of Faith says:
"We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God."
That principle has always stayed with me.
๐ Another Witness
The Nemenhah Records claim to be another witness of Jesus Christ.
Like any record, they should be approached thoughtfully.
People can read them and come to different conclusions.
That is fine.
But I have spent years reading them alongside the Book of Mormon.
What surprised me was not how different they were.
What surprised me was how often they pointed back to the same Savior.
The same call to repentance.
The same invitation to seek the Holy Ghost.
The same warning against pride, power, and getting gain.
The same vision of Zion.
๐ A Different Picture of Zion
This may be the part that affected me most.
For many years I imagined Zion as something that would happen somewhere else.
Some future gathering.
Some future event.
Some future place.
Many people picture Zion as moving to a location and waiting for God to fix everything.
But the Nemenhah Records caused me to ask a different question:
What if Zion begins wherever people start living Zion principles?
What if Zion starts in families?
In neighborhoods?
In communities?
In ordinary people learning to love God and love one another?
The more I studied, the more I began seeing Zion not merely as a destination but as a way of life.
A people with no poor among them.
A people guided by the Spirit.
A people who learn cooperation instead of competition.
A people who put Christ at the center.
๐ชถ Moroni and the Northern Record
One of the fascinating claims of the Nemenhah Records is that Moroni continued his ministry among northern peoples after the events recorded in the Book of Mormon.
Whether someone accepts that claim or not, I find it interesting that the record presents Moroni as doing what true prophets have always done:
Pointing people to Christ.
Calling people to repentance.
Teaching unity.
Teaching charity.
Teaching preparation.
Teaching Zion.
And perhaps that is the real test of any record.
Does it lead us toward Christ?
Does it help us become better disciples?
Does it increase faith, hope, charity, and love?
❤️ What I Have Found
I cannot tell anyone what they should believe.
I would not want to.
Every person must seek truth for themselves.
Every person must ask God.
Every person must listen for the Holy Ghost.
But I can tell you what I have found.
I have found ideas that challenge me.
I have found teachings that make me think.
I have found principles that help me understand Zion more clearly.
And most importantly, I have found another reason to turn my attention toward Jesus Christ.
In the end, that is the test I keep coming back to.
Not:
"Who approves of this?"
Not:
"Which group accepts this?"
Not:
"Does this fit my traditions?"
But rather:
"Does this help me hear the voice of the Lord more clearly?"
For me, that question matters most.
And that is why those large books remain on my shelf.
Not because they replaced anything.
But because they helped me look a little more carefully for truth wherever God may choose to place it.

๐ฟ Want To Learn More About Building Zion?
One of the reasons I wrote The Blueprint of Zion was because I eventually realized that many people can explain how Babylon falls, but very few people explain how Zion is actually built.
The Blueprint explores practical questions such as:
• How do we strengthen families?
• How do we care for the poor?
• How do we reduce contention?
• How do we build Christ-centered communities?
• What does stewardship really mean?
• How does common consent work?
• What role do councils play?
• How do we prepare spiritually and temporally?
• How do we learn to hear the voice of God for ourselves?
• What does Zion look like in everyday life?
These are not future questions.
They are today's questions.
