The Hidden Hand of William Clayton
π―️ And the Church That Still Won’t Come Clean
He was called a clerk.
But he helped write doctrine.
He was called a scribe.
But he shaped the story.
William Clayton stood beside Joseph Smith—but what he recorded, and what he didn’t, still casts a long shadow over everything we were taught.
𧱠The Foundation No One Questioned
Let’s start here:
William Clayton is the man who penned the so-called “revelation” on polygamy—Section 132.
He did this:
- While already secretly practicing polygamy himself
- While helping Brigham Young secure power and redefine the Restoration
- While claiming it was all coming from Joseph Smith
But Joseph’s wife, Emma, and many of his closest friends—including William Marks and James Whitehead—never believed Section 132 came from Joseph.
And yet this man—William Clayton—became the official “witness” the Church needed to publish it after Joseph was gone.
π Why Won’t They Release His Diaries?
To this day, the Church refuses to fully release Clayton’s journals to the public.
Why?
Because they’re not just diaries.
They’re receipts.
They contain:
- The behind-the-scenes edits of revelations
- The process of justifying polygamy
- The rewriting of temple covenants
- The inner workings of what Brigham Young and his allies built after Joseph’s death
And if the whole truth came out?
It wouldn’t just challenge Church history…
It would expose how far we’ve drifted from Christ.
π We’re Protecting the Church… But Not the Savior
Let’s be honest.
We’ve been taught to guard the Church.
To defend the Brethren.
To avoid hard questions.
But the Lord never asked for that.
He said:
“Come unto me…” (3 Nephi 9:14)
“Deny yourselves of all ungodliness…” (Moroni 10:32)
“Seek me diligently and you shall find me…” (Doctrine of Christ – 2 Nephi 31–32)
He didn’t say follow the scribes.
He didn’t say protect the brand.
He said follow Him.
So why are we still so afraid to look behind the curtain?
π The Remnant Saw It Coming
The Book of Mormon warned this would happen.
“They have all gone out of the way… they have become corrupted.”
—2 Nephi 28:11
“They rob the poor because of their fine sanctuaries… and persecute the meek.”
—2 Nephi 28:13
“The Gentiles will reject the fulness of my gospel…”
—3 Nephi 16:10
Isaiah said it too:
“Her watchmen are blind… they are shepherds that cannot understand.”
—Isaiah 56:10–11
And the Nemenhah Records repeat the same sorrowful song:
“They shall say, ‘Come to the house of the Lord,’ but the Lord shall not be there…”
—Tsihohnayah 14:9
π₯ A Better Witness
The Lord is not waiting for Salt Lake to publish the truth.
He’s already whispering it to the humble.
“Zion will not be built from the top down. It will rise from the Remnant—one awakened heart at a time.”
(from my journal)
The Remnant is real.
The prophecies are true.
And the invitation still stands.
π§ Final Thought
This isn’t about tearing down faith.
It’s about setting it free.
William Clayton and Brigham Young helped hijack the story.
But the Living Christ is still writing a new one—with those who will walk with Him outside the camp.
So ask not what the Savior can do for the Church.
Ask what we’re willing to do for Him.
Because it’s not about defending the scribes.
It’s about defending the truth.
And He is the Truth.
