π Chapter 13 Breakdown – A Warning Cry in the Last Days
π£️ Speaker:
Timothy (Tsimohtl) — one of the Three Nephites, continuing his message to the Nemenhah and prophesying about the spiritual condition of the latter-day Gentiles and remnants of Israel.
π OVERVIEW:
Chapter 13 is a warning, a lamentation, and a call to repentance.
Timothy sees clearly into our day and testifies of widespread apostasy—among both the Gentiles who were given the Restoration, and the House of Israel who rejected it.
He grieves over the spiritual blindness, the false security, the institutional pride, and the refusal to receive the Way of sanctification.
π KEY THEMES & TEACHINGS:
1. All Have Gone Out of the Way
“Behold, they have all gone out of the way... they draw near with their lips, but their hearts are far from Me.”
(Tsihohnayah Ahkehkthihm 13:3)
This echoes 2 Nephi 28 almost word for word.
It’s not just some churches or sects—it’s all that have gone astray.
People say the right things, but their hearts are proud, institutional, and blind.
2. The Great and Spacious Church
“They say: We are the church of God, and we cannot be led astray.”
(Tsihohnayah Ahkehkthihm 13:5)
This is direct language: a warning against churches that claim exclusivity.
“We are the only true church” becomes a dangerous trap.
It breeds spiritual pride and removes the need for personal revelation.
3. They Rest in Their Traditions
“They rely upon the words of men and deny the Spirit.”
(Tsihohnayah Ahkehkthihm 13:6)
Instead of seeking God themselves, they trust in manuals, leaders, traditions.
The Spirit is quietly ignored.
The people become spiritually lazy, assuming they’re safe.
4. Boasting in Keys and Structures
“They say: We have the keys and the covenants, and all men must come to us or be lost.”
(Tsihohnayah Ahkehkthihm 13:8)
This is one of the most critical verses in the entire Nemenhah Record.
Timothy rebukes the idea that salvation flows through one institution.
This mirrors 2 Nephi 28:12 and D&C 121: when leaders exercise unrighteous dominion, the Spirit is gone.
5. The Lord Is Grieved by Their Arrogance
“I have sent My Spirit unto them, but they would not receive it.”
(Tsihohnayah Ahkehkthihm 13:10)
Despite all their ordinances and declarations, they will not receive Him.
They want a form of godliness, but not the fire.
The Lord’s Spirit cannot abide where there is control, pride, and falsehood.
6. A Cry of Warning, Not Destruction
“My voice is raised not to destroy, but to awaken.”
(Tsihohnayah Ahkehkthihm 13:12)
The purpose of this prophecy is not condemnation.
It’s a wake-up call.
The Lord still stretches out His hand.
7. The True Way Must Be Found Again
“There is a Way, and it is still in the earth, though few there be who find it.”
(Tsihohnayah Ahkehkthihm 13:18)
The Way of holiness, sanctification, personal communion with Christ—it still exists.
But most will miss it because they’re looking to institutions, not inward transformation.
It’s the same Way Christ taught in 2 Nephi 31–32 and 3 Nephi 11.
8. Repentance Begins with the Leaders
“Woe unto the shepherds who cause the sheep to err... who sit in high places and say: Thus saith the Lord, when He hath not spoken.”
(Tsihohnayah Ahkehkthihm 13:22–24)
Leadership is held accountable.
Those who claim to speak for God but do not have His word will face His rebuke.
The Lord is not interested in religious celebrity—He wants meekness and truth.
9. The Invitation to Walk the Way Still Stands
“Turn unto Me, saith the Lord, and walk in the Way. Be sanctified, and I will receive you.”
(Tsihohnayah Ahkehkthihm 13:30)
Despite the apostasy, despite the pride—the door is still open.
Anyone can repent, receive the Spirit, and walk in holiness.
π§ DOCTRINAL ALIGNMENTS:
This chapter aligns strongly with:
2 Nephi 28: False churches, pride, “all is well.”
3 Nephi 16: The Gentiles reject the fulness, and the remnant is called.
D&C 121: Priestly authority lost when used for control.
Isaiah 29: “Their fear of me is taught by the precepts of men.”
