This chapter continues the words of Timothy, one of the Three Nephites (Tsimohtl), who ministers to the Nemenhah people and prophesies of the last days. His words are filled with urgency, compassion, and clarity, directed toward a humble remnant who will be called to rise amidst a general apostasy.

1. The Lord Will Call the Remnant—One by One

“He shall gather His People in that day, and not in masses, but one here and another there.”

  • Zion is not built through mass conversion or institutional programs.

  • God calls individuals—those who are willing to be sanctified and walk in holiness.

  • This is a direct rejection of the corporate model of church growth, suggesting instead a spiritual awakening on a personal level.

2. The Gentiles Have Been Given the Opportunity—And Have Stumbled

“Behold, the Gentiles who were given the first opportunity have stumbled... they have gone out of the way and do deny the fullness of the Gospel.”

  • Timothy laments that those Gentiles who first received the Restoration have turned from the fullness.

  • They have taken pride in outward ordinances, priesthood keys, temples, and institutional power, but lack the Spirit and the true knowledge of God.

  • They "boast of their temples," but Timothy says that the Lord has not sanctified them, because their hearts are not pure.

3. Zion Shall Be Built by the Humble and Repentant Remnant

“It shall be the meek and lowly, even they who are cast out and trodden underfoot, who shall be lifted up to build the foundations of Zion.”

  • Zion will not come through hierarchy or pride.

  • The Lord will use the simple, the poor in spirit, and those who are often rejected by religious authorities.

  • This echoes Christ’s teachings in the Sermon on the Mount and 3 Nephi.

4. A People of Covenant—Not an Institution of Power

“They shall covenant with the Lord to walk in His paths, and He shall be their God, and they shall be His People.”

  • The Lord’s covenant is direct, personal, and binding through the Spirit.

  • There is no need for earthly hierarchy to mediate the covenant—the Lord speaks directly to His people.

  • Zion is built by those who know His voice and walk in daily holiness.

5. The Way Is Still Open—But Narrow

“The Way is strait, and narrow, and there be few who find it... but it shall not be taken from the earth.”

  • Despite general apostasy, the Way still exists.

  • This Way is spiritual, not institutional—it is the path of sanctification, humility, and knowing Christ.

  • This language parallels 2 Nephi 31–32, describing the Doctrine of Christ: faith, repentance, baptism, Holy Ghost, and enduring in Christ.

6. The Women of the Remnant Hold Sacred Knowledge

“And the mothers shall teach their children to walk in holiness. They shall whisper the names of God, and the babes shall prophesy.”

  • Women are honored as spiritual leaders, midwives, priestesses, and nurturers of Zion.

  • The sacred feminine is not suppressed or subordinated but exalted.

  • Their spiritual gifts are vital to the building of Zion and the preparation of holy children.

7. A Lamentation and a Promise

“Oh that My People would hear Me! That they would rend the veil and enter in!”

  • Timothy ends with a lament, pleading with the people to awaken.

  • The invitation remains open—to rend the veil, receive the Holy Ghost, be sanctified, and become Zion.
