Pioneer Day: What They Started… and What We Haven’t Finished

πŸŒ„ Pioneer Day: A Different Way to Remember

πŸ•Š️ “The Gentiles shall scourge you and drive you… but the Lord shall remember His covenant and raise up a remnant.”
(Mohrhohnahyah, Nemenhah Records 4:7)

🌾 Grateful for the Pioneers

I love Pioneer Day.

The courage of those men and women inspires me every year.
They were tough. They were faithful.
Some of my own family were among them—members of the Martin and Willie handcart companies who died on that trail.

We owe them honor.

But maybe—just maybe—Pioneer Day could also be a time to open our minds a little wider.

πŸ€” A Gentle Question

If we truly are God’s chosen, restored people… why aren’t we living in Zion yet?

We have temples, chapels, and programs. We have great organization and industry. But the Nemenhah prophets said this would happen:

πŸͺΆ “They are a goodly people, strong to build, yet they will not hear My voice. Their priests will teach precepts of men and call them holy.”
(Tsihohnayah Ahkehkthihm 14:4)

The Book of Mormon warned us too:

πŸ“– “O ye Gentiles, have ye remembered the covenant of the Father? Nay; but ye have cursed Him, and the sword of His justice hangeth over you.”
(Ether 2:9)

The good news? The Lord hasn’t forgotten us.

πŸ•Š️ “The blood of the remnant shall cry from the ground, and in the last days the record keepers shall speak again.”
(Tsihohnayah Ahkehkthihm 14:4)

πŸ“– What the Coming Book Will Explore

This Pioneer Day, I’m finishing a book that looks at this with love and honesty. Here’s a glimpse of what’s coming:

  • Brigham the Builder… and Brigham the Blocker – How he built a people but also delayed and redirected Joseph’s vision of Zion.

  • Massacres We Don’t Want to Remember – Battle Creek, Mountain Meadows, and Bear River, where prophecy of a “scourged remnant” came true.

  • The Ghost Dance & the Cry for the Savior – A spiritual awakening misunderstood as rebellion.

  • The Remnant Rising – The Nemenhah prophets saw this day coming—their records are speaking again, right now.

❤️ Why This Matters Now

This isn’t about throwing stones at pioneers or leaders.
It’s about finishing what they started.

Zion won’t come through tradition alone.
It will come when we hear the Savior’s voice, repent, love each other, and welcome the remnant He promised to restore.

The Book of Mormon makes it plain:

πŸ“– “Come unto Christ, and be perfected in Him… and deny yourselves of all ungodliness… then are ye sanctified in Christ.”
(Moroni 10:32)

That’s the real Pioneer Day challenge.

πŸ™ A Soft Pioneer Day Prayer

πŸ•Š️ Lord of the Restoration,

Thank You for the faith of our pioneer fathers and mothers.
Thank You for the courage of the remnant whose blood cries from the ground.

Help us open our hearts to truth.
Help us lay aside pride and fear.
Help us finish the work they began—
To be one heart, one mind, one people.

Raise up Zion in our day.

πŸ•Š️ Amen.

πŸ“– The book is almost ready.
It’s written with love, for anyone willing to listen.
Because the story isn’t over yet.
