๐ธ Dear Sister Emi – A Missionary Letter from Grandpa
When You Step into Japan, Remember Who You Are
Soon, a young sister missionary will be looking out the airplane window into the land of the rising sun.
A new land below. A heart full of hope and a little trembling.
And a grandfather quietly whispering to the Lord:
“What can I give her that will matter when it gets hard?”
I wrote this for Emi.
But it’s really for every daughter of Zion who goes out in His name.
✉️ A Letter to My Granddaughter, Emi
Dear Sister Emi,
I can still see you as a little girl, barefoot in the summer grass, running through the yard and helping to get ChaCha out of the pool. You lived with us for those summers, and you grew so close to Baba and me. Two weeks we spent together in Japan not long ago—and do you remember what our number one favorite thing was? Stopping at 7-Eleven! They had everything, and it was like heaven for the stomach. Those little memories make me smile, because now you’re going back—not as a tourist, not as a child, but as a messenger of Christ.
Emi, you are beautiful—not just in your smile or your eyes, but in your spirit.
It shines brighter than anything else.
Japan will see it. The people will feel it. They will see Him in you.
I served a mission too. It was hard.
There were lonely mornings. Doors closed. Hearts closed.
But here’s the secret that changed everything for me:
๐ Every morning, ask this one question:
“Lord, what can I do for You today?”
Listen to His voice then don't close your prayer to Him until the end of the day!
That question opens heaven.
It silences fear.
It puts the Savior at the center—where He belongs.
๐ A True Witness
The Book of Mormon is a voice from the dust, a trumpet to the nations.
And you, Emi, are the one carrying it.
The Lord promised:
“If ye shall have faith in me ye shall have power to do whatsoever thing is expedient in me.”
(1 Nephi 7:12)
That is you.
A fulfillment of prophecy.
A living invitation for the people of Japan to come to Christ.
You don’t need perfect Japanese.
You don’t need every answer.
You just need a willing heart.
And you have that in abundance.
๐ธ When It Feels Heavy
Some days will feel dry.
Some prayers will feel unanswered.
That’s okay.
Keep walking.
Keep trusting.
Even when your faith feels like a flicker,
He is still the fire.
Remember who you are:
Not just a missionary.
Not just a name tag.
But a daughter of God.
A light in the land of the rising sun.
A witness of Jesus Christ.
AND A TRUE AMBASSADOR OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST!
๐ From Grandpa’s Heart
Don’t worry about the future, money, or what comes next.
Just worry about today—
Did you walk with Him?
Did you listen?
Did you love?
If you do that, Emi, you’ll be okay.
You’ll do more than okay.
You’ll shine.
I love you.
Baba loves you.
Your family loves you.
And HE loves you even more.
Go forward in faith, my Emi.
