“How to Stay Close to Jesus When You Feel Yourself Slipping”
(Based on Video #9 — “Talk With Jesus Daily” Series)
Hello friends.
It’s just me again…
an old man from the sticks who has slipped more times than he can count —
and who has learned, slowly and painfully,
that Jesus never shames you for slipping.
He simply reaches out and says:
“Take My hand.
Let’s walk again.”
Video 9 is all about this tender truth:
How do you return to the Savior
when you feel yourself drifting away?
Because it happens to all of us.
Even the most faithful.
Even the strongest.
Even the ones who love Him with all their heart.
So let’s walk this out together.
π 1) Everyone Slips — That’s Part of Discipleship
This surprises people.
They think discipleship is straight-line progress.
Constant spiritual fire.
Never missing a step.
But scripture shows the opposite:
• Peter sank.
• Thomas doubted.
• Nephi cried repentance.
• Alma called himself “wretched.”
• Enos wrestled all night.
• Even Joseph Smith fell into fear and darkness.
Slipping is part of the process.
The Book of Mormon says:
“Because of the weakness of the flesh we fall.”
— Ether 12:27
Falling isn’t failure.
Staying down is.
π€² 2) Jesus’s Reaction to Your Slipping Is Not Anger — It’s Compassion
The enemy wants you to believe Jesus is disappointed in you.
But listen to His actual words:
“I will draw all men unto Me.”
— 3 Nephi 27:14
Not push them.
Not punish them.
Not shame them.
Draw them.
The Nemenhah Records say:
“The Peacemaker does not chide the faltering foot,
but steadies it.”
Jesus is gentle.
He lifts the fallen.
He binds the wounded.
He restores the weary.
The moment you turn back —
He runs to meet you.
π¦ 3) You Don’t Need a Big Comeback — Just a Small Return
Video 9 teaches this beautifully:
You don’t need a great spiritual revival to find Jesus again.
You just need a small return.
✔ Whisper His name.
✔ Read one verse.
✔ Say one simple prayer.
✔ Sit with Him for a minute.
✔ Practice one act of kindness.
✔ Repent of one small thing.
That’s it.
The Book of Mormon says:
“Return unto Me even in the least degree,
and I will receive you.”
— Alma 12 (paraphrased principle)
One tiny turn is enough to change the entire direction of the soul.
π± 4) The Devil Attacks the Slipping Soul with Three Lies
This is where Video 9 hits home.
When you slip away…
the enemy rushes in with lies.
Lie #1 — “You blew it. God’s disappointed.”
Truth: He rejoices the second you turn back.
Lie #2 — “You’re not worthy to talk to Jesus right now.”
Truth: Worthiness is what He gives you, not what you earn.
Lie #3 — “You’ve fallen too far.”
Truth: The Son of God left the ninety and nine for ONE.
Scripture says it plainly:
“His hand is stretched out still.”
— Isaiah 9:12, 17, 21; 10:4
Still.
Still.
Still.
Never withdrawn.
π 5) When You Slip, Jesus Comes Searching
This is the part that makes me cry every time.
In Luke 15, Jesus tells the story of a Shepherd who:
• notices one sheep went missing
• leaves the ninety-nine
• goes into the dark
• searches until He finds it
• carries it home
• rejoices
That’s you.
He doesn’t yell,
“Why did you wander off?”
He lifts you.
He carries you.
He restores you.
And the Nemenhah Records echo:
“He seeks the one whose steps falter,
for the one reveals His true heart.”
Your slipping does not push Him away.
It draws Him nearer.
π 6) How to Return From a Spiritual Slip (The 5-Step Pattern)
Video 9 gives a simple, do-able, daily pattern:
1) Pause
Stop running.
Stop spiraling.
Just breathe.
2) Acknowledge
“Lord… I slipped.”
That’s all.
No speeches.
No drama.
3) Ask
“Help me walk again.”
4) Restart small
One verse.
One prayer.
One step.
5) Expect His peace
When it comes, you’ll know you’re back on the path.
This is repentance —
but the kind that heals,
not the kind that beats you up.
π️ 7) What Jesus Wants You to Know Today
Here’s the whole message of Video 9 in one line:
“If you feel yourself slipping…
just turn, and I’m already here.”
No shame.
No delay.
No punishment.
No lecture.
Just love.
Just presence.
Just help.
Just arms wide open.
Your slipping didn’t surprise Him.
Your return delights Him.
π Keep Returning, Friends
Every Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday
a new “Talk With Jesus” video goes up —
and every one of them is matched here
with a blog to walk beside you.
We don’t walk with Jesus because we’re perfect.
We walk with Him because we can’t make it without Him.
And every time we slip —
He brings us back.
