What a “Solemn Assembly” Used to Be — and What It Is Now
🌅 I was listening the other day…
And I heard the phrase again:
👉 “Solemn Assembly”
And something in me paused.
Not in anger.
Not in rebellion.
Just… quiet curiosity.
Because I’ve read that phrase before.
📖 WHERE DOES THIS COME FROM?
A solemn assembly isn’t new.
It didn’t start in Salt Lake.
It didn’t start in 1830.
It goes all the way back to scripture.
📜 BIBLE — WHAT IT WAS
👉 Joel 2
👉 2 Chronicles 7
A solemn assembly meant one thing:
👉 Come before God… broken, humble, and ready
- Fasting
- Weeping
- Repenting
- Crying out to God
Not listening.
Not observing.
👉 Crying out.
And what happened?
- Fire came down from heaven
- The presence of God filled the temple

When people gathered…
👉 It wasn’t about leadership.
It was about:
- Falling to the earth
- Crying out for mercy
- Receiving a mighty change of heart
And in one case…
👉 Christ Himself showed up
No vote.
No formality.
👉 Just people… and God.

Today…
A solemn assembly looks like this:
- Millions watching
- A structured meeting
- A sustaining vote
👉 Raise your hand
👉 Sustain leadership
Sit. Listen.
That’s it.
⚖️ LET’S JUST SAY IT PLAIN
Here’s the shift:
👉 Then:
- People gathered to meet God
- Repentance was central
- Manifestations followed
👉 Now:
- People gather to sustain leadership
- Instruction is central
- Manifestations are not expected
🧠 THIS ISN’T AN ATTACK
This is just observation.
The name stayed the same.
👉 The purpose shifted.
🪶 THE QUIET QUESTION
If someone from:
- Ancient Israel
- King Benjamin’s people
- Kirtland in 1836
…walked into a modern solemn assembly…
👉 Would they recognize it?
🌅 MY HEART ON THIS
I’m not here to tear anything down.
There are good people everywhere.
People who love the Savior.
People trying their best.
But I’ve learned something…
👉 God doesn’t wait for an event.
👉 Christ doesn’t only speak from a pulpit.
👉 The Holy Ghost doesn’t require a schedule.
🪶 THE SIMPLE INVITATION
If you prepare for conference…
That’s good.
But don’t stop there.
👉 Prepare to meet Him… anytime.
👉 Learn His voice… for yourself.
👉 Follow Him… not just a moment.

👉 Same name…
👉 But the real solemn assembly has always been…
👉 between you and God.
