๐ The Honda Dream
๐ The Honda Dream
Last night I had a strange little dream.
Nothing dramatic.
No angels.
No lightning bolts.
Just a car dealership.
I had driven somewhere and, for some reason, stopped by the same Honda dealership where I bought my car. I went inside, did whatever it was I needed to do, and then came back out to the parking lot.
My car was gone.
I stood there for a moment looking around, wondering if I had lost my mind. I still had the keys in my hand. The car had been right there.
So I walked back into the dealership and asked what happened.
They told me they had taken my Honda Pilot into the service department and were working on it.
I said,
“Wait a minute… I didn’t ask for that.”
They had taken my car.
Without asking me.
Without my permission.
Without me even wanting it.
And that was the dream.
๐ก The Thought That Came After
When I woke up, a thought came to me almost immediately.
Maybe this is how people sometimes feel.
You pull into the dealership for something simple…
And suddenly someone has your car up on the rack in the service bay.
They’re pulling things apart.
Fixing things you never asked them to fix.
You didn’t ask for it.
You weren’t ready for it.
You just wanted to drive your car.
And I started thinking about my own life.
How many times have I tried to “service someone else's car”?
Trying to explain things.
Trying to help them see something.
Trying to give answers that nobody asked for.
๐️ A Simple Lesson
Maybe the Lord was reminding me of something simple.
Don’t service the car unless the owner asks.
People have their own timing.
Their own journey.
Their own readiness.
You can’t pull someone into the shop just because you think it would help them.
They have to drive in themselves.
And ask.
Jesus once said:
“Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.”
— Matthew 7:7
Notice the order.
First comes the asking.
๐ When We First Begin to See
I’ve also noticed something else.
When someone first begins to see spiritual things clearly, there’s often a season of excitement.
Truth suddenly feels alive.
Scriptures open up.
Things make sense in ways they never did before.
And when that happens, there’s a natural desire to share it.
You want everyone to see what you see.
But over time the Lord teaches another lesson.
Truth doesn’t need to be forced.
It simply needs to be available.
✨ The Savior’s Way
When you watch how Jesus taught, you begin to notice something.
He rarely forced teaching on anyone.
People usually came to Him first.
Nicodemus came by night asking questions.
The woman at the well began asking about living water.
Blind Bartimaeus cried out,
“Lord, that I might receive my sight.”
Only after people asked…
did Christ teach.
Only after they reached out…
did He heal.
Most of the time He simply invited:
“Come unto me.”
And then He waited.
๐ง The Real Master Mechanic
Another thought came to me as I sat with this dream.
Even when someone does ask…
I’m not the mechanic.
The Lord is.
He’s the professional.
He understands the engine, the wiring, the whole design of a person’s heart and soul.
He knows what really needs repair.
He knows what simply needs patience.
My job isn’t to pull someone’s life apart in the service bay.
Sometimes my job is simply to point quietly toward the real shop.
Because Christ is already there.
Waiting.
Ready to guide.
Ready to teach.
Ready to repair things none of us can fix ourselves.
๐คฆ♂️ Why Does It Take Me So Long to Learn This?
Sometimes I laugh at myself.
Why does it take me so long to learn simple things?
The Lord has been teaching this lesson for thousands of years.
Christ Himself lived it.
He didn’t chase people down the street forcing truth on them.
He invited.
And then He waited.
Those who were hungry came.
Those who were curious asked.
Those who asked received.
๐ฟ A Simpler Way
So maybe the better way to live is simpler than we think.
Love people.
Be kind.
Walk quietly with Christ.
And if someone ever asks…
Then you can open the hood together and point them to the One who really knows what He’s doing.
Until then?
Let them drive their own car.
๐ My Honda Dream
Funny how the Lord can teach a man something important…
Using nothing more than a Honda dealership.
