Alma 36: The Gospel Hidden in a Mirror
Alma 36: The Gospel Hidden in a Mirror
π️✍️ By The True Remnant
Ancient prophets used them to help people remember sacred teachings.
But sometimes those patterns do more than help us remember.
Sometimes they **reveal the message itself**.
And one of the most beautiful examples of this appears in the Book of Mormon in **Alma chapter 36**.

## π A Chapter Built Like a Mirror
At first glance Alma 36 looks like a father simply telling his son about his conversion.
But when you slow down and look carefully, something remarkable appears.
The chapter is built like a **mirror**.
Scholars call this pattern **chiasmus**.
The ideas move toward a center point…
and then they reverse.
It looks something like this:
A — Alma tells his son to keep the commandments
B — Alma remembers his rebellion
C — An angel confronts him
D — Fear of destruction
E — Deep sorrow for sin
**CENTER — Alma remembers Jesus Christ**
E′ — His sorrow turns to joy
D′ — Fear turns to peace
C′ — He begins teaching others
B′ — He works to repair the harm he caused
A′ — He again urges his son to keep the commandments

## ✨ The Turning Point
Right at the center of the chapter Alma says something powerful:
> “I remembered also to have heard my father prophesy concerning the coming of Jesus Christ.”
And in that moment he cries out:
> “O Jesus, thou Son of God, have mercy on me.”
Everything changes.
The pain disappears.
The fear leaves.
And Alma says he is filled with **joy as exceeding as was his pain**.

## π Why This Pattern Matters
The pattern itself teaches the lesson.
Everything in Alma’s story leads to one moment.
Turning to Christ.
That is the center of the mirror.
And everything after that moment begins to heal.
---
## π️ A Pattern for Every Life
The story of Alma is not just history.
It is a **pattern for every soul**.
Many of us wander for a time.
We make mistakes.
We carry regret.
But the turning point always comes when we remember Christ and call upon Him.
That is where the path begins to change.

## πΏ The Gospel in One Chapter
In many ways Alma 36 contains the entire message of the gospel in a single chapter.
Recognize your need.
Turn to Christ.
Receive mercy.
Feel the joy of forgiveness.
Then spend the rest of your life helping others find the same path.
