Why Ancient Prophets Taught in Mirrors

Why Ancient Prophets Taught in Mirrors

๐Ÿ•Š️✍️ By The True Remnant

In the last few posts we’ve been noticing something interesting in the scriptures.

Patterns.

Mirrors.

Structures that quietly guide the reader toward the most important truth.

Ancient prophets used a teaching method that scholars today call **chiasmus**.

That word simply means **a mirror pattern**.

The ideas move toward a center point…

and then they reverse.

And the most important message is usually placed **right in the middle**.

---

## ๐Ÿ“œ Why Prophets Used This Pattern

Ancient teachers lived in a world where most people did not carry written books.

Teachings were spoken.

They were memorized.

They were repeated from generation to generation.

Patterns helped people remember.

But they also helped people **understand**.

A mirrored pattern naturally draws the listener’s attention to the center — the moment where the message becomes clear.

---

## ✨ The Example of Alma’s Conversion

One of the clearest examples of this pattern appears in the Book of Mormon in **Alma chapter 36**.

In this chapter Alma tells the story of his conversion.

At first he describes rebellion and fear.

He remembers the angel who confronted him.

He speaks of the deep pain he felt because of his sins.

But right in the center of the chapter he says something powerful.

He remembers the teachings of his father about **Jesus Christ**.

And he cries out for mercy.

That moment sits exactly at the center of the chapter.

Everything after that begins to reverse.

Pain becomes joy.

Fear becomes peace.

Darkness becomes light.

The pattern itself reveals the message.

Christ is the turning point.

## ๐Ÿ•Š️ Patterns Found Throughout Scripture

Once you learn to recognize these patterns, you begin to see them everywhere.

Many of the Psalms follow mirrored structures.

Certain teachings of Jesus appear to follow similar patterns.

Even entire narratives sometimes move toward a central moment of revelation and then reverse.

These patterns remind us that the scriptures were carefully crafted to help us see the **heart of the message**.

---

## ๐ŸŒฟ Why This Matters for Us

Understanding these patterns is not just a scholarly exercise.

It helps us slow down.

It helps us read the scriptures more thoughtfully.

And it reminds us that the scriptures are not random collections of stories.

They are carefully preserved testimonies pointing us toward Christ.

---

## ๐Ÿ‘‚ The Center Always Points to the Savior

Over and over again, the center of these patterns reveals the same truth.

Turning to Christ changes everything.

The moment a heart turns toward Him…

light begins to replace darkness.

Peace replaces fear.

And hope begins again.
