๐ชถ **THE CHIASMUS BRIDGE**
๐ชถ **THE CHIASMUS BRIDGE**
**Why the Book of Mormon and the Nemenhah Record May Be Pointing to the Same Center**
๐ฅ **Something I Couldn’t Stop Seeing**
Over the last year I’ve been studying two different records.
The **Book of Mormon** and the **Nemenhah Record**.
Now right away people want to turn that into a fight.
Some folks defend one side.
Others defend the other.
But that’s not what I’m interested in.
I’m just an older fellow trying to follow the Savior and write down what I notice.
And one thing keeps jumping out at me over and over again.
A pattern.
A very old pattern.
It’s called **chiasmus**.
And once you see it… you can’t stop seeing it.
---
๐ **What Chiasmus Means**
Chiasmus is an ancient Hebrew way of writing.
Instead of telling a story in a straight line, the writer builds toward a center point.
It looks something like this:
A
B
C
๐ฅ **CENTER MESSAGE**
C’
B’
A’
The message moves inward toward the center.
That center holds the most sacred truth.
Then the structure mirrors itself as the message moves outward again.
Ancient prophets loved this pattern because it helped listeners remember the most important idea.
---
๐ **Example 1 — Alma’s Conversion (Book of Mormon)**
One of the clearest chiasmus structures appears in Alma’s story.
Alma describes rebellion and spiritual darkness. Then something happens that changes everything.
Here’s the pattern simplified:
A — Alma remembers his sins
B — He feels torment and guilt
C — He fears being destroyed
๐ฅ **CENTER — He cries to Jesus Christ for mercy**
C’ — His pain disappears
B’ — Joy replaces guilt
A’ — Alma remembers God’s mercy
The entire structure turns on one moment:
**Calling upon Christ.**
That’s the center.
---
๐ **Example 2 — King Benjamin’s Sermon**
King Benjamin’s message also contains a chiastic pattern.
Simplified structure:
A — God’s greatness
B — The weakness of man
C — Service to others
๐ฅ **CENTER — The Atonement of Christ**
C’ — Charity and service
B’ — Humility before God
A’ — Glory to God
Again the center is clear.
Everything revolves around **the Savior**.
---
๐ **Then I Saw the Same Pattern in the Nemenhah Record**
While studying the Nemenhah writings, I started noticing something familiar.
Different language.
Different cultural setting.
But the same mirror pattern appears in several teachings.
One example appears in the teachings about the fall of the people and the call to return to the sacred path.
Simplified pattern:
A — The people forget the Creator
B — Pride enters the community
C — Prophets warn the people
๐ฅ **CENTER — Return to the Peacemaker and the sacred way**
C’ — The people begin to listen
B’ — Humility replaces pride
A’ — The community is restored
Again the structure points to the center.
Return to the Creator.
---
๐ **Example from Tsihohnayah Ahkehkthihm**
One section of the Nemenhah record describes the corruption of the people and the coming restoration.
Structure simplified:
A — Warning to the people
B — Pride and greed spread
C — Prophets speak truth
D — Judgment approaches
๐ฅ **CENTER — The people must return to the Peacemaker**
D’ — Healing begins
C’ — Teaching is restored
B’ — Pride fades
A’ — The people are renewed
That pattern should look familiar by now.
Different words.
Same structure.
Same center.
---
⚖️ **Two Records — Two Purposes?**
As I studied both records something began to make sense.
The **Book of Mormon** mostly reads like a prophetic history.
It tells the story of a people:
Their wars
Their prophets
Their encounters with Christ.
But it rarely explains daily culture in detail.
The **Nemenhah Record**, on the other hand, preserves teachings about sacred community life, balance, and the spiritual order of society.
One record may preserve the **history of the people**.
The other may preserve the **life way of the people**.
Those roles don’t contradict each other.
They might actually complement each other.
---
๐งญ **The Moroni Question**
There’s another interesting thread worth exploring carefully.
In the **Book of Mormon**, the prophet **Mormon** compiles the record and his son **Moroni** finishes the work.
Moroni protects the plates and preserves the final testimony.
In the Nemenhah traditions we find references to a figure called **Mohrhohnahyah**.
Are these the same historical person remembered through different languages?
It’s difficult to know for certain.
Translation changes names.
Oral traditions shift pronunciation.
But the roles look strikingly similar.
Both figures appear connected to the preservation of sacred records for future generations.
That possibility alone is worth thoughtful study.
---
๐ชถ **Why This Matters to Me**
Back in **1971**, something happened that changed my life.
A quiet impression came into my heart that simply said:
**“Believe the Book of Mormon.”**
That moment never left me.
That book opened the door to a lifelong search for the Savior.
And over the years I’ve learned something simple.
When sacred records are genuine, they eventually point to the same place.
The center.
---
๐ก **What the Center Shows**
When I look at the center of the **Book of Mormon**, the message is clear:
Turn to Christ.
Repent.
Receive mercy.
When I look at the center of the **Nemenhah teachings**, I see something very familiar:
Return to the Creator.
Walk the sacred path.
Live in humility.
Different language.
Same direction.
---
๐ **The Chiasmus Bridge**
So instead of asking which record wins an argument, maybe a better question is this:
What sits in the center?
Because when you look at the center of both records, the answer is simple.
Come back to God.
Walk with the Savior.
Live with humility and love.
Maybe these records were never meant to fight each other.
Maybe they were both meant to help us remember where the center is.
And for me, that’s enough.
