🕊️ Proximity Is the Power
What Section 84 Really Says About Priesthood
📍 Where We Start
We talk a lot about priesthood in the Church.
We talk about keys.
We talk about offices.
We talk about who has it—and who doesn’t.
But in Doctrine and Covenants 84, the Lord seems less interested in structure and more interested in sanctification.
He says something astonishing:
“Without this, no man can see the face of God, even the Father, and live.”
(D&C 84:22) ✔
That's not about certificates.
That's not about seating charts.
That’s about coming into His presence.
🔥 Priesthood = Power of Godliness
“In the ordinances thereof, the power of godliness is manifest.”
(v. 20) ✔
So what is this power?
It’s not running a meeting.
It’s not placing your name next to a title.
It’s not even being set apart.
It’s the power that changes you.
Sanctifies you.
Burns you clean.
And brings you to see Him.
If the ordinances don’t do that—
then we’ve done them in form only.
🔐 The Oath and Covenant
“He that receiveth my servants receiveth me… and my Father.”
(v. 36–37) ✔
The Lord says if we receive the priesthood and magnify it,
we are sanctified by the Spirit,
our bodies are renewed,
and we are invited into the presence of God.
This isn’t theoretical.
This isn’t symbolic.
This is the covenant of Zion.
⚠️ The Warning We Skipped
“And your minds in times past have been darkened…
because you have treated lightly the things you have received.”
(v. 54–57) ✔
The Lord said the whole Church was under condemnation.
Not because they were breaking commandments.
But because they were treating lightly the Book of Mormon
and the former commandments.
We built chapels.
We built temples.
But did we build Zion?
🧭 What If It's Closer Than We Think?
What if priesthood was never about hierarchy?
What if it was always about proximity?
What if the real “power of godliness”
wasn’t in a calling
or a program
or a temple recommend…
…but in hearing His voice?
Seeing His face?
And walking in holiness every day?
🙏 A Final Plea
If you’ve felt something missing…
If the ordinances have felt like echoes but not fire…
You’re not alone.
The invitation still stands.
The covenant is still open.
“Draw near unto me, and I will draw near unto you.”
(D&C 88:63)
And when He draws near—
that’s when the real priesthood begins.
