๐ŸŒฟ The Goodness of God

Every Wednesday afternoon I like to share a piece of music that has touched my heart.

This week it is a beautiful rendition of:

๐ŸŽถ Goodness of God – Megan Tibbits

Take a few minutes and listen to it before reading any further.

Then come back.

I'll wait.

Looking Back

One thing happens when you get to be 74 years old.

You start looking backward as much as you look forward.

When you're young, you dream about where you're going.

When you're older, you begin to see where you've been.

And if you've walked with the Lord for very long, you start noticing something.

He was there the whole time.

The victories.

The failures.

The mistakes.

The miracles.

The mountains.

The valleys.

Looking back, I can see His hand in places where I couldn't see it at the time.

The Goodness We Miss

Sometimes we pray for blessings and don't recognize them when they come.

We ask for strength.

He gives us experiences that make us stronger.

We ask for wisdom.

He gives us challenges that teach us.

We ask for faith.

He gives us opportunities to trust Him.

Years later we look back and realize:

The Lord answered far more prayers than we ever knew.

Through the Fire

One line in this song speaks deeply to me.

It talks about being led through the fire.

Most of us wouldn't choose the hard road.

I certainly wouldn't.

My back surgery.

Family challenges.

Questions.

Losses.

Disappointments.

Yet some of the greatest spiritual experiences of my life came during the difficult seasons.

The Lord often does His finest work when we finally stop trying to carry everything ourselves.

The Holy Ghost Leaves Footprints

I've often compared the Holy Ghost to standing in the sunshine.

You may not understand all the science behind the sun.

But you know when you're standing in its warmth.

The Spirit is much the same.

When I look back over my life, I can see those footprints.

Moments when the Lord nudged me.

Protected me.

Corrected me.

Comforted me.

Carried me.

The older I get, the easier those footprints are to see.

The Nemenhah Connection

One reason I love the Nemenhah Records is that they continually point us back to gratitude.

Back to remembering.

Back to recognizing the hand of the Creator in all things.

Creation bears witness.

Life bears witness.

And sometimes music bears witness too.

A simple song can remind us of truths we've known all along.

My Testimony

I have studied a lot of things in my life.

Church history.

Scripture.

The Book of Mormon.

The Nemenhah Records.

Prophecy.

Zion.

But when everything is stripped away, I keep coming back to something simple.

God has been good to me.

Far better than I deserve.

Not because life has been easy.

But because He has never abandoned me.

Not once.

And when I look back over the road behind me, I find myself saying:

"All my life You have been faithful."

๐ŸŽต Take Five Minutes

Listen to the song.

Think about your own life.

Think about the people who helped you.

Think about the miracles you almost missed.

Think about the prayers that were answered years later.

Then offer a prayer of gratitude.

Not for everything you wanted.

But for everything God gave.

You may discover, as I have, that His goodness was there all along.
