🕊️ The Haymehnay

❓ The Question

Who is the Holy Ghost?

For most of my life, I thought the answer was simply learning a definition.

Then I noticed something.

The scriptures spend very little time trying to define the Holy Ghost.

Instead...

They teach us how to receive Him.

The Bible...

The Book of Mormon...

Joseph Smith...

And then the Nemenhah Sacred Records...

All pointed me toward the same invitation.

Receive the Spirit.

Be changed.

Become more like Jesus Christ.

📜 The Bible

Jesus promised:

"When he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth."

John 16:13

The Holy Ghost teaches.

Comforts.

Reveals.

Testifies of Jesus Christ.

The emphasis is always upon His work in changing us.

📘 The Book of Mormon

Nephi wrote:

"The Holy Ghost... will show unto you all things what ye should do."

2 Nephi 32:5

Moroni promised:

"By the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things."

Moroni 10:5

Again...

The Holy Ghost is not simply something to understand.

He is someone through whom we receive revelation.

👤 Joseph Smith's Teachings

As I studied Joseph Smith's early teachings, one thought kept returning to my mind.

The Holy Ghost is the means by which God's knowledge, light, power, and will are communicated to His children.

As we receive His Spirit, we begin to receive the mind of God.

Our desires begin to change.

Our understanding grows.

Our hearts become more like Christ.

🪶 The Nemenhah Sacred Records

This is where one of the greatest discoveries of my journey began.

The Nemenhah call the Holy Spirit the Haymehnay.

Rather than beginning with philosophical definitions, they describe what the Haymehnay actually does.

📖 Tuhhuhl Nuhmehn — Chapter 1

The record introduces the Haymehnay in the creation account and teaches about the Haymehnay People, showing that God's holy influence is woven into His work from the beginning.

📖 Ayahtkuhyaht Nemenhah

The Haymehnay is described as bringing peace to the bosom, revealing truth, manifesting according to the needs of each individual, and confirming what comes from the Peacemaker.

It is called an "unspeakable gift."

📖 First Book of Ohuhgohuh 1:169–180

After heavenly fire descends, the leaders are instructed to govern:

"...with that judgment which cometh of the Haymehnay."

They are further commanded:

"Follow the voice of the Haymehnay in all your councils."

The Haymehnay is not presented as an occasional influence.

It is to become the guide for everyday life.

📖 First Book of Tsi Muhayl 1:1–4

Tsi Muhayl begins his record by saying:

"The Haymehnay has come upon me and I must write the things that the Peacemaker doth reveal unto me."

Revelation begins with the Haymehnay.

📖 Second Book of Tsi-Tuhgohhah — Chapter 4

Pah Hehmehntehm is described as being mighty in the gifts of the Haymehnay.

Those gifts are expressed through healing...

Mercy...

Forgiveness...

And loving service.

The Haymehnay is recognized by the fruit it produces.

💎 Great Discovery

As I compared all these witnesses, one simple picture came into my mind.

The sun remains in the heavens.

Yet its light reaches every corner of the earth.

In much the same way, I have come to understand the Haymehnay.

God remains enthroned in heaven.

Yet His light...

His truth...

His love...

His power...

Can fill our minds and hearts.

As we receive the Haymehnay, we gradually receive more of the mind and will of God, and our lives become more like the life of Christ.

❤️ Talking Feather's Reflection

This discovery changed the way I pray.

I spend less time asking,

"Tell me what to do."

And more time asking,

"Help me receive Thy Spirit."

Because if I truly receive the Haymehnay...

The answers will come.

Not always immediately.

But always lovingly.

🤔 Questions to Ponder

  • How has the Holy Ghost changed my heart?
  • Am I seeking information—or transformation?
  • What do the Nemenhah scriptures add to my understanding of the Holy Ghost?
  • What does it mean to follow "the voice of the Haymehnay" in every council of my life?
  • How can I become more receptive to God's light each day?

🕊️ Walking Together

The Haymehnay always points us to Jesus Christ.

That is His work.

Read these passages.

Compare the witnesses.

Then ask God to fill your life with His Spirit.

Come and see.
