The Chiasm and the Medicine Wheel — A Surprise Discovery

The Chiasm and the Medicine Wheel — A Surprise Discovery

๐Ÿ•Š️✍️ By The True Remnant

Something funny happened the other day.

I was sitting here talking with My Man Godfrey, my AI buddy, about a dream.

The dream had nothing to do with chiasmus.

It had nothing to do with the Medicine Wheel.

It was simply a recurring dream about a water leak.

After talking about it for a while, I realized the leak was probably the family situation I've been dealing with these past months.

That was helpful enough.

But then the conversation took a strange turn.

One of those turns I never saw coming.

The Dream Wasn't About Water

The more we talked, the more it became obvious that the dream wasn't really about water.

It was about peace.

Or maybe the loss of peace.

The dream kept pointing me back to the same lesson:

Stop carrying things that belong to the Lord.

Now that's a lesson I'm still trying to learn.

Matter of fact, if I'm honest, I'm not very good at it.

I like fixing things.

I like helping.

I like trying to bring people together.

Sometimes I probably talk too much.

Just ask my family.

๐Ÿ˜‚

But the dream kept pulling me back toward rest.

Then We Started Talking About Chiasmus

Now this is where things got interesting.

Years ago, when I discovered chiasmus in scripture, something happened to me.

It wasn't just an intellectual discovery.

I felt light.

I felt love.

I felt closer to Christ.

At the time, I thought it was because I had found an ancient pattern hidden in scripture.

Now I'm not so sure.

What If It Was Never About the Pattern?

For those who don't know, a chiasm is a mirror pattern.

It starts on the outside.

Then moves inward.

Closer and closer to the center.

And often the center contains the message.

As we were talking, a thought suddenly hit me.

Maybe what affected me wasn't the pattern itself.

Maybe it was what the pattern was teaching.

Everything was leading toward the center.

Then the Medicine Wheel Appeared

And that's when I almost laughed.

Because the Medicine Wheel teaches something very similar.

You move through experiences.

Lessons.

Directions.

Seasons.

Growth.

You keep walking.

You keep learning.

You keep changing.

But eventually you discover something.

The purpose was never simply to travel around the wheel.

The purpose was to find the Center.

The Same Lesson

Now maybe I'm wrong.

I certainly don't claim to understand everything.

But what if the reason chiasmus touched me so deeply years ago is because my soul already recognized the pattern?

Go outward.

Come inward.

Find the Center.

The Medicine Wheel teaches it.

The Way teaches it.

The Doctrine of Christ teaches it.

The Peacemaker teaches it.

Maybe they're all pointing toward the same thing.

The Danger

Here's the danger.

A person can fall in love with the pattern.

A person can fall in love with the records.

A person can fall in love with the symbols.

A person can fall in love with the journey itself.

And forget why they started walking.

The purpose of a road sign is not the sign.

The purpose is the destination.

The purpose of the chiasm is not the structure.

The purpose of the wheel is not the circle.

The purpose is what stands at the Center.

The Center

The more I think about it, the more I believe this is why the Lord keeps simplifying things for me.

Years ago I was chasing answers.

Then I was chasing patterns.

Then I was chasing records.

Then I was chasing understanding.

Now I find myself asking a much simpler question:

Where is Jesus in this?

And every time I ask that question, I seem to find myself returning to the same place.

The Center.

The Peacemaker.

Christ.

Maybe that is what the chiasm was teaching me all along.
