The School of the Prophets... An Ancient Pattern?

Come and See.



🏛️ What if Joseph Smith wasn't inventing something new...

What if he was restoring an ancient pattern that God has always used to teach His people?

Most Latter-day Saints have heard of the School of the Prophets.

It wasn't merely a classroom.

It wasn't a seminary.

It wasn't Sunday School.

It was a sacred gathering where disciples prepared themselves to hear the voice of God.

As I continued studying the Nemenhah Sacred Records, I began noticing something remarkable.

Not identical ceremonies.

Not identical cultures.

But a remarkably similar pattern.

📜 Joseph Smith's School of the Prophets

The Lord commanded Joseph Smith to establish a holy school.

Its purpose was to prepare Saints for Zion.

Those attending were taught to:

🙏 Pray together.

📖 Learn by the Spirit.

🤝 Teach one another.

🗣️ Speak one at a time.

❤️ Avoid contention.

✨ Enter spiritually prepared.

The goal was never simply to gain knowledge.

The goal was to become a people who could receive revelation.

🪶 The Nemenhah Sacred Records

Throughout the Nemenhah Sacred Records we repeatedly see sacred gatherings where the people assembled to:

🔥 Seek the Creator.

👂 Hear His voice.

🤝 Counsel together.

🌿 Renew covenants.

❤️ Strengthen one another.

🚶 Return home and walk the Way.

These gatherings were not centered upon one man giving all the answers.

They were centered upon a covenant people seeking the Creator together.

🌿 The Pattern

When I placed these side by side, I found an ancient pattern.

🙏 Seek Revelation🙏 Seek the Creator
📖 Learn by the Spirit👂 Hear His Voice
🤝 Teach One Another🤝 Counsel Together
❤️ No Contention🕊️ Walk in Peace
✨ Spiritual Preparation🌿 Enter Worthily
🏛️ Build Zion🌎 Walk the Way

Different cultures.

Different languages.

The same heavenly purpose.

💡 What Stood Out Most

Neither system was designed to create followers of men.

Both sought to help ordinary people become disciples who could recognize the voice of the Creator for themselves.

Joseph Smith taught a school where revelation was expected.

The Nemenhah Sacred Records repeatedly invite the people to walk the Way until they know the Creator's voice through personal experience.

That may be the greatest similarity of all.

📚 Study These Scriptures Yourself

📖 Bible

  • John 10:27 — "My sheep hear my voice..."

📖 Doctrine and Covenants

  • Doctrine and Covenants 88:117–141 — The School of the Prophets

  • Doctrine and Covenants 88:122–126 — Learning together in order and by the Spirit

  • Doctrine and Covenants 88:133–141 — The sacred greeting and fellowship

📖 Book of Mormon

  • 2 Nephi 32:3–6 — The Holy Ghost teaches all things.

  • 3 Nephi 17–19 — Christ teaches, prays with, and ministers among the people.

  • Moroni 6:4–6 — Saints gather often to remember Christ and strengthen one another.

🪶 Nemenhah Sacred Records

The following passages are good places to begin studying this pattern:

  • Tsihohnayah Ahkehkthihm, Chapter 4 — Common consent, councils, and seeking the Creator together.

  • Ayahtkuhyaht — Temple worship, sacred gatherings, and walking the Way. (Additional chapter-and-verse references will be added as this topical index is completed.)

  • High Place — The Four Pillars, councils, and learning to hear the Creator. (To be expanded with verified references.)

❤️ My Thoughts

I am not suggesting that Joseph Smith copied the Nemenhah Sacred Records.

Nor am I suggest that the Nemenhah copied Joseph Smith.

Instead...

I wonder if both are preserving the same eternal pattern.

A pattern established by the Creator long before either record was written.

A sacred gathering where humble disciples come together...

not merely to learn about God...

but to hear Him.

"My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me."

— John 10:27

Perhaps that has always been the purpose of every true school...

every true temple...

and every true gathering of Zion.

Come and see.

Open the scriptures.

Compare the patterns.

Ask the Creator.

Then listen for His voice.
