When You Finally See Him, You Already Know Him
πͺΆ The Hick From The Sticks Version
This week a friend sent me a website.
It was full of incredible spiritual experiences.
Visions.
Manifestations.
Amazing stories.
Maybe they're true.
Maybe they aren't.
I honestly don't know.
So I sent the link to my friends Ryan and Ruth.
Now if you've never met people like Ryan and Ruth, they're the kind of folks that make you want to be a better Christian just by being around them.
They love Jesus.
Not the idea of Jesus.
Not the theory of Jesus.
Not the debate about Jesus.
They just love Him.
Ruth wrote back:
"I looked into them five years ago. They didn't resonate with me though."
Then she asked:
"What are your thoughts?"
I wrote back:
"I didn't check really. Having too much fun walking with Jesus in real life."
A few minutes later Ruth replied:
"Exactly."
And I just sat there smiling.
Because that's it.
That's the whole thing.
πΏ The Nemenhah Reminder
This week we were reading the First Book of Ohuhgohuh.
The chapter is packed with miracles.
The voice of God.
The appearance of the Peacemaker.
Angels.
Prophecy.
Fire.
Heavenly manifestations.
But something struck me.
The reason these people received such great things wasn't because they were chasing experiences.
They were already living with Christ.
They cared for widows.
They cared for the fatherless.
They shared what they had.
They sought the face of the Peacemaker.
They walked His path.
They were already living the life.
πΏ The Goal Isn't the Vision
Sometimes we act like the goal is to see an angel.
Or have a vision.
Or hear a voice.
Or collect spiritual experiences.
But what if the goal is much simpler?
What if the goal is to walk with Jesus today?
To talk with Him.
To pray.
To repent.
To serve somebody.
To forgive somebody.
To love your wife.
To help your neighbor.
To feed the hungry.
To follow the promptings of the Spirit.
To quietly walk with Him.
Day after day.
Year after year.
πΏ Then Comes Verse 97
One of my favorite verses says:
"They knew, each one of them by their own experience and not by any other man's words..."
Notice what happened.
When they finally saw Him...
They recognized Him.
Why?
Because they already knew Him.
Not physically.
Spiritually.
The walk had prepared them.
πΏ The Glorious Part
I think that's what I've learned.
The glorious part isn't the vision.
The glorious part is the walk.
The vision may last a few minutes.
The walk can last a lifetime.
And if someday we are blessed enough to see Him face to face, perhaps the greatest joy won't be meeting a stranger.
It will be recognizing a Friend we've been walking with all along.
