๐ช Slaying Goliath in the Last Days
๐ช Slaying Goliath in the Last Days
I’ve been reading about a Cambridge professor, Luke Kemp, who studied 400 societies over 5,000 years. His finding?
The number one cause of collapse wasn’t war.
It wasn’t famine.
It wasn’t disease.
It was inequality.
⚖️ When Goliaths Rule the Land
Kemp calls the power-hungry elite “Goliaths”—leaders and systems that hoard wealth, control resources, and use force or manipulation to stay on top.
They create brittle societies.
Beautiful on the outside, hollow underneath.
One good crisis… and it all comes down.
๐ Ancient Warnings
The Book of Mormon uses the word “iniquity” again and again—and its root meaning is inequality.
Every time the Nephites or Jaredites let pride divide rich from poor… they fell.
Every time they walked in humility and equality… they prospered.
The Nemenhah tell the same story: when leaders place themselves above the people, they cease to walk with the Lord.
๐ง The Dark Triad of Power
Psychologists describe the dark triad of destructive leadership:
- Narcissism — self-worship and entitlement.
- Psychopathy — no empathy for the suffering of others.
- Machiavellianism — cunning manipulation for personal gain.
Sound familiar?
You can see it in King David’s later years.
You can see it in Amalikiah’s rise to the throne.
And… you can see it today.
๐️ The Goliaths of Our Day
Politics. Business. Religion.
The robes may be different, but the spirit is the same.
- Politicians pass laws for themselves.
- Corporations wring communities dry.
- Religious leaders sometimes protect the institution over the flock.
✝️ The Antidote
The Book of Mormon gives a simple command:
“Ye will not esteem one flesh above another.”
Christ’s kingdom runs on the opposite fuel:
Humility. Compassion. Integrity.
The Nemenhah say: “Those who walk with their people walk with the Lord.”
๐ The Test Before Us
Kemp’s data says inequality is a structural weakness.
Scripture says it’s a spiritual sickness.
The question is the same:
Will we lift others up—or lift ourselves above them?
One path leads to collapse.
The other leads to Zion.
