The Foundation of a Zion People
Every lasting structure rests upon a strong foundation.
A home without solid footings eventually cracks.
A bridge without support cannot carry its weight.
A great tree survives storms because its roots reach deep into the earth.
The same is true of the human soul.
The Nemenhah Sacred Records teach that Zion is not built merely by gathering people into one place.
It is built by forming people whose hearts are strong enough to carry the Kingdom of God.
That is why they speak of Four Pillars.
Not as abstract ideals...
but as living foundations.
The Medicine Wheel Shows the Way
The Medicine Wheel reminds us that Christ is the center.
Every decision returns to Him.
Every relationship finds meaning in Him.
Every season of life points back to the Creator.
But once we begin walking that path, another question naturally follows.
What kind of people are we becoming?
The Four Pillars answer that question.
They describe the kind of disciples who can build Zion.
The First Pillar: Knowledge
Knowledge is much more than collecting information.
Scripture warns that people may be "ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth."
True knowledge changes the way we live.
The Savior continually invited His disciples to learn.
"Come and see."
"Follow Me."
"Search the Scriptures."
The Nemenhah teachings add another beautiful dimension.
Knowledge grows through study...
through experience...
through wise counsel...
and through personal revelation.
Truth is not merely memorized.
It is lived.
The Second Pillar: Sacrifice
Nothing of eternal worth has ever been built without sacrifice.
Parents understand this.
Missionaries understand this.
Every loving marriage understands this.
The Savior revealed the highest expression of sacrifice when He willingly gave His life for the world.
Sacrifice is not losing something.
It is giving something precious for something even greater.
Every step toward Zion asks the same question:
What am I willing to lay down so someone else may be lifted?
The Third Pillar: Virtue
Virtue is who we are when no one is watching.
It is honesty when deception would be easier.
Purity when temptation whispers.
Integrity when compromise promises quick rewards.
The world often celebrates talent.
Heaven treasures character.
Jesus did not merely teach virtue.
He embodied it.
Every word.
Every action.
Every decision reflected the heart of His Father.
Virtue is the quiet strength that allows every other pillar to stand.
The Fourth Pillar: Consecration
Perhaps no pillar challenges modern hearts more deeply.
Consecration does not begin with money.
It begins with ownership.
Or rather...
with surrendering the illusion of ownership.
Everything we possess...
our talents...
our time...
our opportunities...
our resources...
our very lives...
are gifts entrusted to us by the Creator.
Consecration simply asks,
How can these gifts bless someone besides myself?
Love naturally shares.
Love naturally serves.
Love naturally gives.
That is why Zion can never be created through compulsion.
It grows only where willing hearts freely offer themselves to God.
The Pillars Stand Together
None of these pillars stands alone.
Knowledge without sacrifice becomes pride.
Sacrifice without knowledge becomes misdirected zeal.
Virtue without consecration becomes private goodness.
Consecration without virtue eventually loses its integrity.
Like the legs of a great table...
each supports the others.
When one weakens...
the whole structure begins to wobble.
When all four stand together...
peace becomes possible.
Families become healthier.
Communities become stronger.
Zion begins to appear.
The Pattern of Christ
The Four Pillars are not merely Nemenhah teachings.
They are a portrait of Jesus Christ.
He is Truth.
He is the perfect Sacrifice.
He is absolute Virtue.
He consecrated His entire life to the will of His Father.
To become like Christ is to strengthen each pillar within our own hearts.
That work does not happen overnight.
It happens one decision at a time.
One act of obedience.
One sacrifice.
One honest choice.
One generous gift.
One prayer.
One quiet victory over self.
Building Zion
Perhaps we spend too much time asking,
"When will Zion come?"
The better question may be,
"Am I becoming a person who could live there?"
Because Zion is not first built with stone.
Or wood.
Or laws.
It is built with people whose lives rest upon eternal foundations.
Knowledge.
Sacrifice.
Virtue.
Consecration.
Four simple words.
One remarkable pattern.
And when those pillars stand together beneath the lordship of Jesus Christ...
The Kingdom of God is no longer a distant dream.
It quietly begins...
Within us.
And from those transformed hearts...
Zion rises.
