๐ฟ Two Witnesses, One Path — Part 3
2 Nephi 25:23–32 and the Nemenhah Records
One of my favorite passages in all the Book of Mormon is found near the end of 2 Nephi 25.
Nephi writes:
"We talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ..."
I have always loved that verse.
It is simple.
Direct.
Clear.
Nephi is telling us why he writes.
He is telling us the purpose of his record.
The purpose is not to draw attention to himself.
The purpose is not to create a movement.
The purpose is not even to preserve history.
The purpose is Christ.
Everything points to Him.
As I searched the Nemenhah Records, I found something fascinating.
Not the exact wording.
But the same purpose.
Again and again, the records seem to point people toward the Peacemaker.
Not toward the record itself.
Not toward the writers.
Toward Him.
๐ We Talk of Christ
Nephi says:
"We talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ..."
That may be one of the simplest summaries of true discipleship ever written.
Everything comes back to Christ.
Now compare that to this Nemenhah teaching.
๐ชถ First Book of Ohuhgohuh
The Peacemaker teaches that the purpose of the record is to bring people unto Him.
Porch Thought
That immediately caught my attention.
Nephi says:
We talk of Christ.
The Nemenhah says:
The purpose of the record is to bring people to the Peacemaker.
Different wording.
The same destination.
๐ Teaching Our Children
Nephi explains why he writes.
He says that he teaches these things:
"...that our children may know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins."
That is a beautiful statement.
Nephi is not merely teaching doctrine.
He is teaching his children where to look.
Now compare that to this passage.
๐ชถ Mohmeht Ahkehkt 3:70–74
Parents are instructed to teach their children:
to know the Peacemaker
to hear His voice
to seek His face
and to become united with Him
Porch Thought
I found this one remarkable.
Nephi says:
Teach your children where to look.
The Nemenhah says:
Teach your children to know Him.
Both records place responsibility upon parents.
Both point children directly toward the Savior.
๐ Seeking the Savior Personally
Nephi repeatedly points people beyond himself and toward Christ.
He does not ask readers to stop with Nephi.
He asks them to come unto Christ.
Now compare this teaching.
๐ชถ Tsihohnayah Ahkehkthihm 13:29–30
Parents are instructed to teach their children to seek revelation directly from the Peacemaker.
Porch Thought
That sounds very familiar.
Nephi constantly points people beyond prophets and toward Christ Himself.
The Nemenhah teaches the same principle.
Seek Him.
Hear Him.
Know Him.
๐ The Witness of the Spirit
Nephi's purpose is not simply to inform.
His purpose is to persuade people to believe in Christ.
The Nemenhah explains how that witness comes.
๐ชถ Mahnti 5:14
The Haymehnay testifies of truth and brings all things to remembrance.
Porch Thought
Both records ultimately depend upon spiritual confirmation.
Truth is not merely learned.
Truth is witnessed.
The Spirit becomes the teacher.
๐ฟ What Are These Records Teaching?
As I stepped back and looked at these passages together, one theme became obvious.
Nephi is not trying to get people to follow Nephi.
He is trying to get people to follow Christ.
The Nemenhah is not trying to get people to follow the record.
It is trying to get people to follow the Peacemaker.
Nephi teaches:
Talk of Christ.
Rejoice in Christ.
Preach of Christ.
Prophesy of Christ.
The Nemenhah teaches:
Know the Peacemaker.
Hear His voice.
Seek His face.
Become one with Him.
Different words.
The same invitation.
And perhaps that is what impressed me most.
The deeper I looked, the less this study became about records.
The more it became about the Savior.
And honestly, that feels exactly right.
Because if a record is true, where should it lead?
To Him.
Every time.
Next Study
In the next article we will compare one of the greatest chapters in all scripture:
2 Nephi 31:17–20.
The Doctrine of Christ.
The baptism of fire.
The Holy Ghost.
Pressing forward.
And what we found in the Nemenhah Records may be one of the strongest parallels in this entire series.
