๐ŸŒฟ Two Witnesses, One Path — Part 5

Mosiah 4:2–3 and the Nemenhah Records

There are moments in scripture when everything changes.

Mosiah 4 is one of those moments.

King Benjamin has finished teaching his people about Christ.

He has taught them about the atoning blood of Christ.

He has taught them about man's fallen condition.

And suddenly the people see themselves clearly.

Perhaps for the first time.

They cry out:

"O have mercy, and apply the atoning blood of Christ that we may receive forgiveness of our sins..."

What follows is one of the most beautiful descriptions of conversion found anywhere in scripture.

The Spirit comes upon them.

They receive a remission of their sins.

They are filled with joy.

And they experience peace of conscience.

As I searched the Nemenhah Records, I found several passages that seem to follow the same pattern.

๐Ÿ“– Crying for Mercy

King Benjamin's people reach a point where they realize they cannot save themselves.

They cry out for mercy.

Not excuses.

Not self-justification.

Mercy.

Now compare that with this Nemenhah teaching.

๐Ÿชถ Mehnipahsihts 1:32

"Out of such suffering through which He alone is powerful to save..."

Porch Thought

That phrase immediately caught my attention.

"He alone is powerful to save."

That is exactly where King Benjamin's people arrive.

They stop looking to themselves.

They look to Christ.

They look to the Redeemer.

They look to the One who alone can save.

๐Ÿ“– The Spirit Comes Upon Them

Mosiah tells us:

"The Spirit of the Lord came upon them..."

That is a remarkable statement.

Something happened.

Not merely intellectually.

Spiritually.

Now compare that to this Nemenhah teaching.

๐Ÿชถ Mahnti 5:14–15

The Haymehnay:

"testify of the truthfulness of all things"

and

"bring all things to your remembrance."

The Haymehnay then causes truth to become part of the individual.

Porch Thought

Both records describe more than learning.

Both describe transformation.

The Spirit does not merely teach truth.

The Spirit makes truth part of the soul.

๐Ÿ“– Receiving a Remission of Sins

Mosiah continues:

"They had received a remission of their sins..."

That is one of the central promises of the gospel.

Forgiveness.

Cleansing.

Renewal.

Now compare that to this Nemenhah teaching.

๐Ÿชถ Mohmeht Ahkehkt 3:64–66

Things made the Peacemaker's through the Holy Spirit of Promise become eternal.

Truth is written into the soul and cannot be denied.

Porch Thought

I found this fascinating.

The Nemenhah does not merely describe forgiveness as an event.

It describes transformation.

Truth becomes written into the soul itself.

Something permanent happens.

That sounds very similar to the change King Benjamin's people experience.

๐Ÿ“– Filled With Joy

Mosiah tells us:

"They were filled with joy..."

I love that phrase.

Notice that joy comes after mercy.

After forgiveness.

After the Spirit.

Now compare this Nemenhah passage.

๐Ÿชถ Mahnti 9:1–2

"The words of Tsimohtl did renew in us the spirit of grace..."

Porch Thought

The phrase that stands out to me is:

"the spirit of grace."

King Benjamin's people experience grace.

And the result is joy.

The burden is lifted.

The soul is renewed.

The heart changes.

The Nemenhah seems to describe the same process.

๐Ÿ“– Peace of Conscience

Mosiah concludes by saying they received:

"peace of conscience."

That may be one of the most beautiful phrases in scripture.

Peace.

Not because circumstances changed.

Peace because they changed.

Now compare that with a recurring Nemenhah theme.

๐Ÿชถ The Peacemaker and the Haymehnay

The Nemenhah repeatedly teaches that those who align themselves with the Peacemaker through the Haymehnay find harmony, peace, and wholeness within.

Porch Thought

That connection struck me immediately.

King Benjamin's people receive peace of conscience.

The Nemenhah teaches peace through alignment with the Peacemaker.

Different wording.

The same destination.

๐ŸŒฟ What Are These Records Teaching?

As I stepped back and looked at these passages together, a familiar pattern appeared.

The people cry for mercy.

The Nemenhah teaches:

He alone is powerful to save.

The Spirit comes.

The Haymehnay brings truth into the soul.

Forgiveness is received.

Truth becomes part of who the person is.

Joy follows.

Grace renews the heart.

Peace follows.

The soul is changed.

Different records.

Different language.

The same journey.

Perhaps that is why Mosiah 4 continues to resonate so deeply with readers.

Because every one of us longs for the same thing.

Mercy.

Forgiveness.

Joy.

Peace.

And both records seem to point to the same source.

The Savior.

The Redeemer.

The Peacemaker.

Next Study

In the next article we will examine Alma 5:14–26.

One of the greatest questions ever asked in scripture:

"Have ye experienced this mighty change in your hearts?"

And what we found in the Nemenhah Records may reveal one of the clearest parallels in this entire series.
