๐ŸŒฟ Two Witnesses, One Path — Part 7

Helaman 5:12 and the Nemenhah Records

There are some scriptures that seem to grow more important the older I get.

Helaman 5:12 is one of them.

Most Book of Mormon readers know it well.

Helaman tells his sons:

"Remember, remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation..."

Then he describes the storms that inevitably come.

The mighty winds.

The whirlwind.

The hail.

The opposition.

The trials.

The darkness.

And then comes the promise.

If our foundation is built upon Christ:

"it shall have no power over you."

I have thought about that scripture a great deal over the years.

And one thing has become increasingly clear.

Helaman is not teaching a program.

He is not teaching an institution.

He is not teaching a checklist.

He is teaching a relationship.

The foundation is not a system.

The foundation is Christ Himself.

๐Ÿ“– The Foundation

Helaman teaches:

"It is upon the rock of our Redeemer... that ye must build your foundation."

That is where everything begins.

Not with rules.

Not with traditions.

Not with organizations.

With Christ.

Now compare that to one of the strongest themes found throughout the Nemenhah Records.

๐Ÿชถ The Peacemaker Is the Foundation

Again and again the records invite people to:

Seek the Peacemaker.

Hear His voice.

Walk with Him.

We have seen this pattern repeatedly in:

• Mohmeht Ahkehkt

• Tsihmlayi

• Tsihohnayah Ahkehkthihm

Porch Thought

That immediately caught my attention.

Helaman says:

Build upon Christ.

The Nemenhah repeatedly says:

Follow the Peacemaker.

Different language.

The same foundation.

๐Ÿ“– When the Storms Come

One thing I appreciate about Helaman is his honesty.

He never says the storms will not come.

In fact, he promises they will.

The question is not whether storms arrive.

The question is whether we remain standing.

Now compare that to this Nemenhah teaching.

๐Ÿชถ Led From Within

One phrase from the Nemenhah teachings stood out to me:

"The Spirit writes truth upon the soul."

And another:

"Zion people are led from within—not controlled from without."

Porch Thought

I love that thought.

Storms have a way of exposing weak foundations.

When pressure comes, borrowed testimonies often fail.

Secondhand faith often collapses.

But truth written upon the soul remains.

Perhaps that is exactly what Helaman is describing.

๐Ÿ“– Hearing His Voice During the Storm

Helaman speaks of:

mighty winds

whirlwinds

storms

opposition

The Nemenhah repeatedly teaches disciples to hear the voice of the Peacemaker amid confusion, adversity, and uncertainty.

Porch Thought

That feels remarkably similar.

The storm is not avoided.

The disciple remains standing because he knows the Shepherd.

Not because life became easy.

Because he learned to hear the voice of Christ.

๐Ÿ“– A Changed Heart Creates Stability

As I have worked through this series, one thing has become increasingly obvious.

The Nemenhah records rarely focus on surviving trials through rules.

Instead they repeatedly focus on:

Transformation

Alignment with the Peacemaker

Guidance through the Haymehnay

Porch Thought

That may be one of the strongest parallels we have found.

The changed heart becomes a stable heart.

The transformed disciple becomes difficult to move.

Not because he is strong.

Because Christ is strong.

๐Ÿ“– The Pattern Emerging From Every Study

As I stepped back and looked at all the passages we have examined so far, a larger pattern emerged.

Mosiah 3:19

Put off the natural man.

Alma 36

Cry for mercy.

2 Nephi 25

Teach and know Christ.

2 Nephi 31

Receive the Holy Ghost and walk the Way.

Mosiah 4

Receive joy, peace, and remission of sins.

Alma 5

Experience a mighty change of heart.

Helaman 5

Build everything upon Christ.

Porch Thought

What surprised me most is that the strongest Nemenhah parallel is not a single verse.

It is a pattern.

A journey.

A process.

A road.

And the road seems to look something like this:

Come unto the Peacemaker.

Receive the Haymehnay.

Be changed within.

Learn to hear His voice.

Walk the Way.

Build your life upon Him.

Then the storms lose their power.

๐ŸŒฟ What Are These Records Teaching?

If I had to summarize Helaman 5:12 in a single Nemenhah idea, it would be this:

The Spirit writes truth upon the soul, and the disciple learns to hear the voice of the Peacemaker directly.

Because Helaman is really asking:

What is your foundation when everything else shakes?

And the answer found in both records seems remarkably similar.

Not an institution.

Not a movement.

Not a philosophy.

The Savior.

The Peacemaker.

Jesus Christ.

The same foundation.

The same Rock.

The same refuge when the storms come.

And perhaps that is the strongest common thread running through every study in this series.

Christ.

Always Christ.
