๐ชถ Did the Prayer Circle Teach Something We Forgot?
A thought came to me the other day in a way I didn’t expect.
It started with the temple prayer circle.
I found myself wondering—
Why a circle?
Why has a circle shown up in sacred places?
Why not rows?
Why not lines?
Why a circle?
And then another thought came:
What if the circle itself is trying to teach something?
Not a ritual.
A truth.
The more I thought about it…
the more I started seeing circles all over the place.
The prayer circle.
The medicine wheel.
King Benjamin gathering the people round about the temple.
Even—believe it or not—
Camelot.
King Arthur’s Round Table.
Now I know that sounds like a long way from scripture.
But maybe not.
Because what did the Round Table symbolize?
No head seat.
No one above another.
Equality.
Fellowship.
A people gathered in shared covenant.
That actually preaches.
And I started wondering—
what if these are all faint echoes of the same old pattern?
God in the center.
People gathered around Him.
Life ordered toward holy things.
That’s a beautiful thought.
And isn’t that what Zion is?
Not hierarchy.
Not religious status.
But hearts made one around Christ.
That sounds a lot like a circle to me.
Even some early Christian sources speak of sacred prayer circles, something Hugh Nibley loved exploring.
Which makes me think maybe the circle is older than we know.
Older than denominations.
Older than institutions.
Maybe even woven into how heaven teaches.
Then I thought of the medicine wheel.
The four directions.
The center.
Everything moving toward center.
And I thought—
that may be one of the deepest spiritual pictures there is.
Because isn’t that what we’re all doing?
Trying to return to Center?
Trying to come back to Christ?
I think so.
And maybe that’s what prayer is.
Coming back to Center.
Maybe repentance is.
Maybe worship is.
Maybe the whole gospel is.
Coming back.
Again.
And again.
And again.
And here was the part that really touched me—
A circle has no front row.
I can’t shake that.
No front row.
No favored seats.
No spiritual celebrities.
No one climbing over another.
Just souls around the Holy One.
That may be closer to Zion than we realize.
And then a wild thought crossed my mind.
What if Lehi’s dream is teaching the same thing?
Tree at the center.
Path leading inward.
Maybe even the iron rod as a spoke.
Now I may be getting ahead of myself.
That may be another post.
But once I saw that possibility…
I couldn’t unsee it.
I’m not claiming hidden mysteries here.
Just sharing a thought.
Maybe sacred circles have always been whispering something simple:
Face God.
Gather as one.
Return to Center.
And maybe…
we forgot.
Or maybe we’re remembering.
๐ฟ I’m beginning to think much of walking with Jesus is simply learning how to return to the Center.
To Him.
