🌿 Two Witnesses, One Path — Part 3 2 Nephi 25:23–32 and the Nemenhah Records

🌿 Two Witnesses, One Path — Part 3 2 Nephi 25:23–32 and the Nemenhah Records One of my favorite passages in all the Book of Mormon is found near the end of 2 Nephi 25. Nephi writes: "We talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ..." I have always loved that verse. It is simple. Direct. Clear. Nephi is telling us why he writes. He is telling us the purpose of his record. The purpose is not to draw attention to himself. The purpose is not to create a movement. The purpose is not even to preserve history. The purpose is Christ. Everything points to Him. As I searched the Nemenhah Records, I found something fascinating. Not the exact wording. But the same purpose. Again and again, the records seem to point people toward the Peacemaker. Not toward the record itself. Not toward the writers. Toward Him. πŸ“– We Talk of Christ Nephi says: "We talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ..." That may ...

🌿 Two Witnesses, One Path — Part 2 Alma 36:18–19 and the Nemenhah Records

🌿 Two Witnesses, One Path — Part 2 Alma 36:18–19 and the Nemenhah Records One of the most beautiful passages in all of scripture is found at the very center of Alma's great chiasm. Alma 36:18–19. The turning point. The hinge. The moment everything changes. Alma says: "I remembered also to have heard my father prophesy concerning one Jesus Christ, a Son of God, to atone for the sins of the world." Then he cries: "O Jesus, thou Son of God, have mercy on me." And then comes one of the most remarkable statements in scripture: "I could remember my pains no more." Everything changes when Alma remembers Christ. Not church. Not position. Not authority. Christ. As I searched the Nemenhah Records, I did not find a word-for-word parallel the way we found with Mosiah 3:19. But I did find something interesting. I found the same pattern. πŸ“– Alma Remembers Christ Alma's turning point begins with remembrance. He remembers what he had been taught concerning Jesu...

Lesson 4 The Land Prepared Before They Arrived Discovering God's Provision Beyond the Wilderness Listen to the NEW Narration:     Lesson 4 The Land Prepared πŸ“š Reading Assignment Primary Source Ayahtkuhyaht Nemenhah – Complete Text (Second Edition) The Book of Hahgohtl – Main Record Read the account describing Hahgohtl's arrival in the fertile land beyond the great canyon, the discovery of abundant resources, and the beginning of the first settlement. Related Scriptures Genesis 2:8–15 1 Nephi 17:5–6 Doctrine and Covenants 104:13–18 🌿 Opening Thought "Long before God's people arrived... God had already prepared the land." For weeks, Hahgohtl and his people had struggled against the current. They had known hunger. They had known sickness. They had known fear. Then, almost without warning... everything began to change. The narrow canyon opened. Fresh streams flowed into the great river. Trees shaded the valley. The land was alive. What had seemed like an e...

🌿 Two Witnesses, One Path — Part 1 Mosiah 3:19 and the Natural Man

🌿 Two Witnesses, One Path — Part 1 Mosiah 3:19 and the Natural Man When I began this new study, I decided to start with one of my favorite scriptures in all the Book of Mormon. Mosiah 3:19. If you've spent much time in the Book of Mormon, you probably know the verse. King Benjamin teaches: "For the natural man is an enemy to God..." I've always loved that scripture because it explains a battle every one of us understands. Not a battle against governments. Not a battle against institutions. Not even a battle against other people. A battle within ourselves. Part of us wants Christ. Part of us wants our own way. Part of us wants heaven. Part of us wants comfort. King Benjamin teaches that we must yield to the Holy Spirit, put off the natural man, and become humble, submissive, meek, patient, and childlike. As I sat on the porch thinking about that verse, a question came into my mind. Does the Nemenhah teach the same thing? Not the same words. The same principle. So I ...

🌿 Two Witnesses, One Path A Discovery I Wasn't Looking For

Image
🌿 Two Witnesses, One Path A Discovery I Wasn't Looking For A few mornings ago I was sitting on the porch with my scriptures open. Nothing unusual. Just me some quiet time before the day got busy. The sun was just beginning to come up. The world was still. And I found myself reading one of my favorite scriptures in the Book of Mormon. Mosiah 3:19. I've probably read that verse hundreds of times over the years. Maybe you have too. King Benjamin says: "For the natural man is an enemy to God..." Every time I read it, it hits me a little differently. Because King Benjamin wasn't talking about somebody else. He was talking about me. My pride. My impatience. My stubbornness. My tendency to want things my way instead of God's way. As I sat there thinking about it, a simple question came into my mind. Not a profound question. Just a simple one. What if I looked for that same teaching in the Nemenhah Records? Not the exact words. Not identical phrases. Just the princ...

Learning to Walk Upon the Way --- When the Prayer Ends, the Listening Begins

Image
Learning to Walk Upon the Way When the Prayer Ends, the Listening Begins There is a point in prayer when we have said enough. We have welcomed the Holy People. We have remembered the Earth and Sky, the ancestors, the spiritual beings, the wisdom keepers, and the people gathered around us. We have offered thanksgiving. We have asked for help. Then comes the part that may be hardest for many of us: We become quiet. That is something I learned in my own prayer. For a time, I felt almost one with the Earth and with the beings I had invited to be near. But I also became aware that I was doing too much talking. I was trying to fill every open place with words. Sometimes the plainest instruction is the best: shut your mouth and listen. That does not mean our words were wrong. It means the words have done their work. Prayer opens the door; listening allows us to notice what may come through it. This is an introduction to what the Records call walking upon the Way . It is written especial...

From Knowing About Christ… to Knowing Him

Image
From Knowing About Christ… to Knowing Him Listen to the NEW Narration and Song:         Knowing HIM There was a question that stayed with me for a long time: Am I truly walking with God… or am I mostly practicing things that point toward Him? It wasn't because I had lost my faith. Quite the opposite. I simply wanted to know Jesus Christ better. As I studied the Bible, the Book of Mormon, the Doctrine and Covenants, and later the Nemenhah Sacred Records, I began noticing a beautiful pattern. Every sacred symbol, every ordinance, every covenant, and every scripture pointed beyond itself to one Person—Jesus Christ. That realization changed the way I studied. Instead of asking, "What does this represent?" I began asking, "How does this help me know the Savior better?" Those are very different questions. The more I read the words of Jesus, the more I noticed that He rarely invited people into a religious system. His invitation was always deeply personal: "Com...
