Help Me Walk With You

Image
Help Me Walk With You A simple daily prayer—with a child’s humble heart Listen the the NEW Song:   Help Me Walk With YOU I listened to this song sung in a child’s voice, and it brought tears to my eyes. The words were simple: Help me hear You, help me follow, Help me bless someone today. That is what I have been trying to express. I want to hear the Savior. I want to follow Him. I want the blessings He gives me to become blessings in someone else’s life. Hearing a child sing that prayer reminded me of something Jesus taught: “Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.” —Matthew 18:3 In the next verse, He speaks of humbling ourselves as a little child. Whatever our age, we can come to Him willing to learn. A heart that says, “Teach me” A child can remind us how to ask for help. We can bring our questions, our mistakes, our hopes, and our needs to the Lord. We can admit that we have more to learn. The Book of Morm...

ðŸŒŋ Two Witnesses, One Path — Part 6 Alma 5:14–26 and the Nemenhah Records

ðŸŒŋ Two Witnesses, One Path — Part 6 Alma 5:14–26 and the Nemenhah Records This may be the strongest comparison we have looked at so far. Not because the wording is the same. Not because the phrases are identical. But because the question being asked is exactly the same. Alma asks: "Have ye experienced this mighty change in your hearts?" Every time I read that verse, I stop. Because Alma is not asking about religion. He is not asking about membership. He is not asking about knowledge. He is asking about change. Has something actually happened inside you? Have you become different? Have you become more like Christ? That is the heart of Alma 5. And surprisingly, that same theme appears again and again in the Nemenhah Records.     📖 A Mighty Change of Heart Alma asks: "Have ye experienced this mighty change in your hearts?" Now compare that to one of the strongest themes found in the Nemenhah. ðŸŠķ Hayneht Paynieht Ahkehkt 3–5 Inner purification. Becoming aligned with ...

ðŸŒŋ Two Witnesses, One Path — Part 5 Mosiah 4:2–3 and the Nemenhah Records

Image
ðŸŒŋ Two Witnesses, One Path — Part 5 Mosiah 4:2–3 and the Nemenhah Records There are moments in scripture when everything changes. Mosiah 4 is one of those moments. King Benjamin has finished teaching his people about Christ. He has taught them about the atoning blood of Christ. He has taught them about man's fallen condition. And suddenly the people see themselves clearly. Perhaps for the first time. They cry out: "O have mercy, and apply the atoning blood of Christ that we may receive forgiveness of our sins..." What follows is one of the most beautiful descriptions of conversion found anywhere in scripture. The Spirit comes upon them. They receive a remission of their sins. They are filled with joy. And they experience peace of conscience. As I searched the Nemenhah Records, I found several passages that seem to follow the same pattern. 📖 Crying for Mercy King Benjamin's people reach a point where they realize they cannot save themselves. They cry out for mercy. ...

Saturday Morning Common Sense 3 --- The Thinking Has Been Done—May I Have Mine Back?

Saturday Morning Common Sense The Thinking Has Been Done—May I Have Mine Back? Sustaining good leaders without putting the Holy Ghost in storage A Little Common Sense for Latter-day Saints   Listen the NEW Song:    May I Have My Thinking Back We Latter-day Saints are practical people. If somebody else has already done all the thinking, there is no sense wearing everybody out. That leaves more time for family history, food storage, and deciding who is bringing the funeral potatoes. In June 1945, a ward teaching message in The Improvement Era included this sentence: “When our leaders speak, the thinking has been done.” Well, that certainly sounds efficient. No more studying, pondering, wrestling, or asking the Lord. Just wait for the completed thinking to arrive. There was only one little problem: President George Albert Smith did not agree with it. A non-Latter-day Saint minister named J. Raymond Cope wrote to him because the statement troubled him. President Smith...

Lesson 5 The First Healers

Related Scriptures Genesis 1:29–31 Ezekiel 47:12 Doctrine and Covenants 59:16–20 ðŸŒŋ Opening Thought "The Creator placed healing within Creation long before mankind learned how to find it." The journey through the canyon had ended. The people had found a land prepared for them. Now another journey was about to begin. It was no longer a journey across rivers and mountains. It was a journey of learning. The Lord had provided the land. Now the people needed to understand it. ðŸŒŋ The Story Among Hahgohtl's company were gifted men called to become healers. ðŸŒŋ Two Witnesses, One Path — Part 4 2 Nephi 31:17–20 and the Nemenhah Records

ðŸŒŋ Two Witnesses, One Path — Part 4 2 Nephi 31:17–20 and the Nemenhah Records If someone asked me where to find the clearest explanation of the Doctrine of Christ in the Book of Mormon, I would probably send them to 2 Nephi 31. Nephi leaves very little room for confusion. He teaches: Faith. Repentance. Baptism. The Holy Ghost. Pressing forward in Christ. Enduring to the end. Simple. Direct. Powerful. In many ways, this chapter describes the entire journey of discipleship. As I searched the Nemenhah Records, I was surprised by how often the same pattern appeared. Not necessarily the same wording. But the same journey. The same invitation. The same destination. 📖 The Baptism of Fire and the Holy Ghost Nephi teaches: "Then cometh a remission of your sins by fire and by the Holy Ghost." That verse has always stood out to me. Notice that Nephi is not merely describing a ritual. He is describing a transformation. Something happens within the soul. Now compare that to this Nemenh...

ðŸŒŋ Two Witnesses, One Path — Part 3 2 Nephi 25:23–32 and the Nemenhah Records

Image
ðŸŒŋ Two Witnesses, One Path — Part 3 2 Nephi 25:23–32 and the Nemenhah Records One of my favorite passages in all the Book of Mormon is found near the end of 2 Nephi 25. Nephi writes: "We talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ..." I have always loved that verse. It is simple. Direct. Clear. Nephi is telling us why he writes. He is telling us the purpose of his record. The purpose is not to draw attention to himself. The purpose is not to create a movement. The purpose is not even to preserve history. The purpose is Christ. Everything points to Him. As I searched the Nemenhah Records, I found something fascinating. Not the exact wording. But the same purpose. Again and again, the records seem to point people toward the Peacemaker. Not toward the record itself. Not toward the writers. Toward Him. 📖 We Talk of Christ Nephi says: "We talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ..." That may ...

ðŸŒŋ Two Witnesses, One Path — Part 2 Alma 36:18–19 and the Nemenhah Records

Image
ðŸŒŋ Two Witnesses, One Path — Part 2 Alma 36:18–19 and the Nemenhah Records One of the most beautiful passages in all of scripture is found at the very center of Alma's great chiasm. Alma 36:18–19. The turning point. The hinge. The moment everything changes. Alma says: "I remembered also to have heard my father prophesy concerning one Jesus Christ, a Son of God, to atone for the sins of the world." Then he cries: "O Jesus, thou Son of God, have mercy on me." And then comes one of the most remarkable statements in scripture: "I could remember my pains no more." Everything changes when Alma remembers Christ. Not church. Not position. Not authority. Christ. As I searched the Nemenhah Records, I did not find a word-for-word parallel the way we found with Mosiah 3:19. But I did find something interesting. I found the same pattern. 📖 Alma Remembers Christ Alma's turning point begins with remembrance. He remembers what he had been taught concerning Jesu...

Lesson 4 The Land Prepared Before They Arrived

Related Scriptures Genesis 2:8–15 1 Nephi 17:5–6 Doctrine and Covenants 104:13–18 ðŸŒŋ Opening Thought "Long before God's people arrived... God had already prepared the land." For weeks, Hahgohtl and his people had struggled against the current. They had known hunger. They had known sickness. They had known fear. Then, almost without warning... everything began to change. The narrow canyon opened. Fresh streams flowed into the great river. Trees shaded the valley. The land was alive. What had seemed like an e...

ðŸŒŋ Two Witnesses, One Path — Part 1 Mosiah 3:19 and the Natural Man

Image
ðŸŒŋ Two Witnesses, One Path — Part 1 Mosiah 3:19 and the Natural Man When I began this new study, I decided to start with one of my favorite scriptures in all the Book of Mormon. Mosiah 3:19. If you've spent much time in the Book of Mormon, you probably know the verse. King Benjamin teaches: "For the natural man is an enemy to God..." I've always loved that scripture because it explains a battle every one of us understands. Not a battle against governments. Not a battle against institutions. Not even a battle against other people. A battle within ourselves. Part of us wants Christ. Part of us wants our own way. Part of us wants heaven. Part of us wants comfort. King Benjamin teaches that we must yield to the Holy Spirit, put off the natural man, and become humble, submissive, meek, patient, and childlike. As I sat on the porch thinking about that verse, a question came into my mind. Does the Nemenhah teach the same thing? Not the same words. The same principle. So I ...
